I was fascinated by the fact that learning another language helps you understand your first language even better and at a deeper level. I love being immersed in a place that speaks a different language and find it so exciting to practice the language with the locals. When I was in France with a comfortable level of French, I had a Colombian friend who made me really want to learn Spanish. Now my husband's first language is Spanish and I am able to learn it through him. I always rebelled against it and hated going to church. I consider myself lucky that my parents stopped going to church as well and no longer forced me to go. I feel that being raised in such a box of an environment helped me to question and be curious about everything else that is out there to learn and know. I didn't like being constrained and told how to live my entire life. This upbringing really brought out my inner rebel which shines through me to this day! I live in Salt Lake and have a liberal, free spirited outlook on life. I am quite irreverent and I love that SLC is such a drastically different place from the rest of Utah, and I believe it is because of the counter-culture.
