My topic is on the housing crisis that is affecting Boise and surrounding towns caused by the large amount of people moving here. I am passionate about this topic because I have lived in the treasure valley for most of my life. Seeing family and friends who are getting evicted and cannot afford to live here anymore move away is very sad. I myself would not be able to afford to live in Boise if I did not live at home, with both parents working full time jobs. Those who would be interested in this topic are those who currently live in Idaho, along with those who are considering moving here. Lawmakers also need to be aware that many Idahoans cannot afford to live here anymore due to the fact that minimum wage has not been raised since 2009. My research question is Will raising minimum wage in Idaho provide a solution to the current housing crisis?

Topic: Healthcare in the United States. I am very passionate about this topic because Healthcare in the US should be universal. A lot of people are not able to get the help they need because they simply do not have the money for it. This can be the matter between life or death for a lot of individuals and this needs to be different. The government and lawmakers can contribute to making this change, and anyone in this country will be interested in this.

Research Question: What is the most efficient way for northern California to implement universal healthcare?

New topic: How might introducing native "fire resistant" vegetation aid in the fire prevention efforts of my community?
My new topic centers around an age old issue that affects the greater west coast during the summer, which is the threat of wildfires that burn thousands upon thousands of acres each year. I am passionate about this topic since now that I've moved out to a rural area, the threat of having my house burn down during a wildfire has become all to real. But beyond just being affected personally, this issue affects hundreds of Idahoans and their homes, especially in rural areas where fire protection often falls on their shoulders. I want to bring some attention to this issue, and also hopefully learn a few ways to save my home this coming fire season.
Local lawmakers and voters could make this change by using their voices to push for more preventative measures in rural areas.

Many areas are planned to be rebuilt to apartments, shopping centers, etc. With the growing population some people are in favor of these changes and some want to preserve these areas.
2. Movement of the Boise homeless shelter. This has been a large topic around Boise lately. The homeless shelter is moving to state street and many residents or business owners are concerned about the change. In my opinion this is a good change that will provide more resource to the homeless population but there are a lot of conflicting opinions surrounding the topic.

How will the expansion of a golf course divert the movement of the Boise River and affect the pollution levels?
My topic is on the possible expansion of a golf course onto an island in the middle of the Boise River. I am passionate about this topic because I believe that nature should be available to anyone who wants to appreciate it. Expanding a golf course to cover public land would limit the rights of local people to enjoy their river. There are a few people who could enact change. The Idaho Conservation League is already aware of and fighting the legislation that would allow people to go through with the expansion. Hearing from more locals and reading their concerns could fuel their fire. I local legislator named Melissa Wintrow may also be fascinated with this issue.

My topic is the lack of mental health services on college campuses. This topic is important to me as many people cannot access mental health services due to money or just a limited amount of resources. This can especially be an issue for young adults. College campuses should be able to provide their students with free services such as counseling. From my own experience and those of my peers I have noticed that there is a lack of such services at colleges and it is causing people to go untreated which can affect their school, work, and daily lives. Most schools could afford to expand their current services to fit the needs of their students. If students and the community around the college brought attention to this issue they could work towards enacting change. This is important for colleges and communities to care about as this could lessen the cost of people being hospitalized due to mental health issues as well as increase graduation rates.

For my topic I am going to be choosing fires that happened in western washington just because of how big of a deal it was and of how many people it affected around me. This topic is interesting to me because one of the biggest fires that started in western washington was the fire on 410 that burned up 150 acres and forced thousands to evacuate was only 15 minutes from my house. I think the biggest thing about my topic that I want people to learn is that a lot of these fires were started by people throwing out cigarettes thinking they are out and 15 minutes later it causes a huge fire that can't be contained. I think the people that are interested in this topic are the same people that want to stop littering and see change.

I am passionate about this topic because the shelter helps hundreds of people everyday and some homeless people still don't know about the help it can offer. It mostly pertains to homeless people but if everyone in Boise knows, then information can be passed along further and more donations will be made.
Research Question: People all around the valley are struggling with finances and finding places to live, so after knowing about a crisis, what can we as a community and city do better to combat this issue?

I am passionate about this topic because moving from Washington state to Idaho is very new to me concerning the minimum wage, and how it is half the rate as it is in Washington. It is difficult to find a place to live with the minimum wage rates that are provided here. I hope that most people who live in Boise or even Idaho itself will be interested in this letter. It mostly relates to college students with minimum wage jobs in Idaho, or anyone with a house in Boise that is working a minimum wage job at all.

For my topic, I want to talk about covid safety procedures. I feel like Idaho is trying to move too fast, and it will just make our progress go backwards. There are schools in Boise that are already going back to five days a week in person, and knowing how students are and how some teachers are, I can't imagine they will respect social distancing and mask guidelines, and there is so much that is passed around in schools. It's a nasty place and the worst place to be, especially for younger kids. My mom is a preschool special ed teacher, and kids that young are very hard to keep under control in a time like this. Her job was already a place where sickness was easily caught.

Topic: How has in influx of citizens from California, Washington, and Oregon impacted the social standings of Boise.
Even though this might be going into the realm of taboo I would like to address the toxicity of this so called “Cancel Culture”. We are in an age where the minority of the population has become more powerful than the majority of the population. Now you may be asking yourself why this is bad. Isn't it great that people who once didn't know how a voice to be heard can now be able to voice their opinions can be listened to. However, there is a major flaw in that thinking. In all honesty do you really feel safe uploading pictures to social media? Really, think about this long and hard, and you are bound to have at least felt a little bit of fear that by uploading a picture someone may take it the wrong way and feel “attacked” or “threatened”. What I am trying to say is how truly menacing it is to allow the few to control the many. Putting morality aside, a human is a human and to be told that we have to call them something else because that is what they identify as is demented. But we live in a society where even though there is only 0.1% of people who do this, the majority must obey it or they will be severely punished. As described in my last research paper, “ The Power of Persuasion Through Fear'', once a small group has the power of fear to control the masses it can allow them to bend everyone to their will and do things that could only be dreamed of. Whether this is for good or evil it is still an immense power that can have fatal results.

There are many questions to be asked when talking about how the remodeling of the highway will directly affect Idahoans. What kind of changes will directly impact Idaho? Slower traffic or even more traffic. I think the remodeling of I-84 could be both beneficial and not so much at the same time.
