Corporate social responsibility includes "environmental efforts, philanthropy, ethical labor practices, and volunteerism." to quote our reading. Ethical practices stand out the most to me. Humanely raised meat, not wasting products, paying employees fair wages, not adding to problems that already exist, but instead constantly looking for solutions and alternatives. Ethical practices mean a lot to me in my everyday life, and I personally choose more ethical companies to do business with because I know the impact that being socially responsible can have on society.

Globalization has it's perks, such as increased revenue, and international trade. This can bring job growth to areas where there were not as many jobs before and increase competition with products and services. It can bring the world closer, expose people to different cultures, and bring valuable educational exchanges between different countries. Upon researching I found that my pre-judgment of globalization was incorrect, and that there are many benefits to it for people all over the world.

I already had an idea about NAFTA being Mexican-American, and having lived in Canada being married to a Canadian citizen; however upon reading the writing of this module I was inspired to research further. I for one am for NAFTA as it makes goods easily available to our three countries. It allows our countries to work together, and trade goods we all need at a much lower cost. Thus negating needing to ship in comparable goods from countries further away. As of July 2020 we have entered into a new trade agreement with Mexico and Canada called USMCA it is similar to NAFTA but more flexible with less, duties implemented on all three countries.

I learnt via this decision making portion of the module that adaptability and making hard decisions is part of having good management skills. Sometimes we have to make hard choices, but we make them after evaluating all the information we have. Looking at information, time, and circumstance related barriers, all-while avoiding bias in general. The GIF I chose reminds me that decision making is, can, and will be difficult at times and is not to be taken lightly.

I have attached a visual below of the word "Diversity" as it pertains to Module 2 and within the visual it shares a multitude of words that represent diversity. All of these such as sex, religion, education level, values, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, race, and more contribute to diversity. Diversity in the workplace is important to me, as I believe we need to be constantly exposed to how others live, and variant peoples so we can have a better understanding of the world, and overall less judgement. Learning to accept and embrace our differences is imperative for true diversity to me.

Upon completion of this module, I found I learned a lot about why planning is imperative. While plans may change, it is important to have a strong understanding of the end goals and what is expected of the team and/or project. I learnt that planning helps establish and organize tasks, clearly defines the objectives, and identifies resources. I know now that when running a business in the future I need to maintain organizational focus, while empowering my employees. Allowing employees to have some creative control, and welcoming diversity are all things i would love to apply to my management skills in the future.

According to our reading: Organizational culture "refers to the collective behavior of the people who make up an organization; this includes their values, visions, norms, working language, systems, symbols, beliefs, and habits."
To me this means that the organization should have good values, and be open to diversity. The behavior of the organization as a whole should reflect the core culture. (e.g. employees should act accordingly, and treat those with respect. ) Much like diversity, we should respect everyone's culture.

Leadership is imperative to a properly run high preforming culture. I chose this visual because it represents what a leader should contribute to their team. Support, setting clear goals, being responsible for conflict resolution, contributing to the work and not just delegating work has always stood out to me as an employee. When my leaders worked with us to reach our goals it made it really feel like a true team, and we were overall more motivated. In my experience with proper leadership, the morale of the team is almost always better!

Below I have linked a TED Talk presented by Mary Schaefer. In this talk she explains how imperative treating employees right from the top down is. She explains how when employees are being heard and treated right, the employee engagement is far better, and they enjoy their jobs when they feel appreciated and noticed. Via our reading we learned "Good managers know that employees are the company’s most valuable assets." I find this to be very true and will take this information with me on my journey to management in the workforce.

I attached the photo below because miscommunications happen a lot and it is important we learn how to communicate respectfully and accurately to avoid miscommunication in the workplace. Knowing the basics of business communications and the dimensions of communications is also imperative to successful communication. As someone who has worked in an office, proper communication helps prevent miscommunication. Some things should not be communicated via e-mail, some conversations should only be had in person so that non-verb language is visible. I have gotten e-mails that panicked me at work because they "sounded" bad, and immediately gone to management for clarification and turns out I made assumptions due to the sender using the wrong communication channel.

Upon reading about leadership in this module it reminded me that setting an example is so important. Going with the crowd is easy, but doing what's right, setting an example is what makes a good leader. The "do as I say, not as I do" attitude never works when in a leadership role. My favorite leaders in work and college have been those who participate and show the group how it is done. I have had leaders in the past who were not great in their role, and it trickled down to the group, and we were not happy or productive; but when we had a leader who worked with us, things got done and we were shown how it should be done. This made for a better environment and a mutual respect. Rather than a leader who just delegates, participation is meaningful to me.

I found this motivational photo and I love having things like this around me to inspire me. Per our reading motivated employees work with a higher efficiency and productivity; I believe this to be entirely true. In my bank job I was given no praise and no motivation to do better. It seemed my bank job focused on all the things we employees could have been doing better, rather than all the good we had been doing. My bank job had a high turn over rate, but the company my mother works for is based on acceptance, happiness, employee retention, and motivation/ reward. Her company has a very low turn over rate; thus proving happy employees make for a better work environment.

Per this module I learnt how important having evaluations, performance standards, and proper problem solving skills such as conflict management. In my personal work experience, evaluations really help with setting the performance standards. Upon my yearly review, I often get a raise and sometimes a bonus. This is all predicated on my performance throughout the year. I have had co-workers in the past who did not care about their performance as much and did the bare minimum, this was problematic for them when evaluations rolled around and they did not receive a bonus, or as high of a raise. This module taught me via hard work, comes reward. You get what you put in!
