Snowball fight writing (Students write one sentence, crumple up their paper and throw it. They pick up a new paper and continue the story (have students use pen - pencil gets hard to read after a few rounds)

Pick multiple pictures of people (make them with something funny- clothes, hair, etc) and hang on giant post-its around the room. In groups they start at one poster. I tell them they are to write sentences introducing the character(s). Then they move to the next poster and continue the story. They will write a sentence about where they are going in the poster. Then rotate to the next poster- this time they write a problem they have. You can decide how many sentences they will add (resolution, an additional problem, etc) Then a conclusion. The key is every time they are moving, reading where the story is at the moment and continuing so at the end the class has written several different paragraphs.
