1. How important is cultural or historical context to the production and reception of a literary text?
2. How do we approach literary texts from different times and cultures to our own? 
3. To what extent do literary texts offer insight into another culture? Within Hughes works, he describes the aspects of black culture and how it has been looked down upon by the majority of our world. Reading a few of his poems, I further understand a portion of black culture and the importance of respecting it. 
4. How does the meaning and impact of a literary text change over time? When literary texts are primarily written, most of the time they are about a specific problem relevant to the time period. In Hughes excerpts, most of his works refer to segregation and slavery, which are now less prominent in the modern world. While segregation is still sometimes seen today, it is now looked at as a negative practice and people of all races and cultures have begun to stand up to it. 
5. How do literary texts reflect, represent or form a part of cultural practices? 
6. How does language represent social distinctions and identities? Language is used as a way that people communicate with one another and it changes depending on culture and upbringing. Depending on the way you speak, it is a part of your identity seeing how your language is a component of you and what you believe. 

1. How does the structure or style of a literary text affect meaning? Consider how Morrison's stream-of-consciousness, shifting points of view, and use of analepsis and prolepsis impact the meaning of the novel. The structure of the literary text affects the meaning, because Morrison used a good amount of dialogue throughout the text, portray the thoughts and feelings of the characters. This is important, because we are able to understand their true intentions and perspectives of the novel's aspects. 

1. How important is cultural or historical context to the production and reception of a literary text? Consider the story of Margaret Garner, the Fugitive Slave Act, and other historical and cultural phenomena and how that has impacted the creation and reception of Beloved. Cultural and historical context is extremley important in the production of a literary text, because when stated, it spreads awareness into the eyes of people reading it. As well as this, it provides knowledge about aspects of the past should never be repeated due to a terrible outcome. 

1. How does Chronicle offer insight into Columbian culture? Consider what we've learned about with machismo, marianismo, honor and the impact of colonialism. Chronicle of a Death Foretold offers insight into Columbian culture as the author, Garcia Marquez, provides details about gender expectations, religion, and marriage expectations. Regarding machismo, the men within this novel are seen as wealthy and powerful, dominant over the women they encounter.
