Turning off my Technology

Probably my most useful strategy for getting rid of time wasters is shutting off my phone and laptop. Often times, even if I'm not using my technology, I'll hear a notification or remember that I wanted to tell someone something, and end up getting distracted. By turning off the sounds on my phone, or turning it off all together, it stops me from being on it and encourages me to focus on whatever task may be more important to focus on.

Prioritizing my tasks is one of my favorite strategies to overcome my time wasters. Taking the time to sit down and try to figure out what I need to get done is a good way for me to focus on the more important things in my life. It helps me lay out a good way to accomplish what I need while still leaving time to have a little bit of fun or entertainment.

Stop and Think

Another helpful way for me to get over my time wasters is actually stopping to think if what I'm doing is important or necessary. Sometimes I'll get caught up in what I'm doing and forget how much time is actually being wasted. So stopping to check myself is good to see if what I'm doing is beneficial to anything other than my own entertainment.

Procrastination Quote

"You may delay, but time will not." -Benjamin Franklin
This is my favorite procrastination quote because it shows how you are in control of your own life. You can't stop or pause time, but you can take advantage of it, and use it to its best potential. If you delay, you're wasting time, because it won't delay with you.

Similar to shopping, this time waster isn't as common for me. I have very few games on my phone, but every once in a while I find myself being distracted by something just to find a little bit of entertainment. This is also another things that simply takes time away from learning about leadership or developing my skills as a leader.

This time waster isn't as often as some of my others but I definitely find myself either shopping online or at a store when I have a little bit of free time. I know that this is definitely an unnecessary thing, I have all that I need, so shopping very simply just takes time away from improving on my leadership.

I feel like this is probably one of the most popular time wasters among my generation. We all have shows and movies that we get distracted by, and spend too much time focusing on. My leadership is affected by this because I tend to focus on the half hour comedies more than real life scenarios, and sometimes forget to take time to work on what really needs to be done.

Often times, while studying, or doing something important, I'll get a notification that something I want to watch has been posted to YouTube. I'll end up watching for hours; it's like what they say about chips, you can't have just one! This is a big time waster for me because I end up spending more time than I intend watching random videos.

One of my biggest time wasters has to do with my social media. Whether it's Instagram, snap chat, or even texting, I like to have my phone near me to check notifications or talk to my friends. This effects my leadership because I'm distracted by things less important than the situations being presented in front of me.
