Many just associate her with one certain event, but in reality she was so much more than that. I want to help people see that. I looked through many articles, and was lucky enough to come across a old newspaper article written about her before she died. I also found a book about her in the Hart County library, named after Nancy Hart, herself. I decided to write a paper about because I feel that everything she has done is best described through words. My project relates to the NHD theme because Nancy Hart unknowingly broke many barriers when she assisted and spied for the Patriots. The majority of women never did anything outside the house, but sitting still and just taking care of stuff around the house was never good enough for Nancy. She continually defied all the rules society set to hold her back. I found out that she was a vaudeville act. I conducted my research using the Helen Keller archives. But before I did that I looked up basic info, like where she was born, who her parents where, and how she learned to read, etc. so that I could specify my search. I decided on my category because I realized that a documentary or paper wouldn't allow me to convey all of the great sources and pictures I found when researching Helen Keller. I also live near the area it happened. I first began conducting research just by searching a few simple terms relating to the building of the Liberty ships. I thoroughly looked in various articles, I was lucky enough to find two shows involving interviews with some of the women that had worked on the ship. I selected how I created my presentation because an essay was simply easiest to try and get as many details as I possibly could down on the pages. I first started researching by going to multiple websites. After putting these sources into a reasonable order, I took a trip to Savannah to see the sites there. These sites gave me many good points for my project. I also then started to go to the library for books and find videos on the internet for videos on my topic. I had decided the category of exhibit by thinking of what I could do that I could always work on, wasn't fully on the computer, and something I could make very creative. I had first started my exhibit by taking measurements, building, and painting. My most important part of building was putting all of my information in a presentable way. I got interested in my topic because I love puppetry. When I heard about the National History Day project, I started to look into the history of puppetry in Georgia.  The name Alma Thomas came up as a puppeteer from Georgia, and I started to do some historical digging.

After doing a general internet search for information about her, I went to worldcat.org to see what other libraries and archives had information about her.  From there, I discovered that many of her papers were held in the Smithsonian (and they had digital copies posted online). I also went to the Center for Puppetry Arts to see what information they had. I also had books and other resources sent to me through inter-library loan.

I have a paper that I think is pretty good, but I have a lot of good visual materials. I think it might make for a strong documentary film.

I specifically looked at the education category because I think female educators can be very inspiring. 

I conducted my research by looking through digital archives, newspapers, and books written specifically on Martha Berry, my NHD topic. 

I selected my presentation category a couple of days after finding Martha because she was the most inspirational out of all people. 

My project related to the NHD theme because Martha broke many barriers in history using education.
