By Judith Dennis and Fradin
This was the first book that I read over the summer, I originally had plans to use this for my summer project but than I found out that there was a different book that I wanted to do more. This book is about a man named Solomon Northup a black man who was free, but was still sold into the slave trade industry. I works a slave for 12 years, we listen to his difficult story and read as he grows further and further away from the life that he knew as a free man.

By Malala Yousafzai and Christina Lamb
This book is very well known throughout the world and so was the event that caused this uproar, Malala Yousafzai lived in Mingora, Pakistan. She is a huge advocate for women's rights which resulted in
a large amount of very unhappy people in the Taliban. The Taliban shot her in the head on her way home from school, but was miraculously saved by a hospital in England. She shares her amazing and heart-stopping story with the rest of the world, catching many people's attention.

The Making of a navy seal: My story of Surviving the toughest challenge and training the best.

By Brandon Webb
I think this book is one of the more powerful books that I have read in a while, along with Malala's story. Brandon Webb narrates his journey in becoming a navy seal, and a sniper. The navy seal qualifying trainings and obstacle courses are known as some of the most difficult ones in the world. Brandon Webb shares his experience in his trainings on his journey getting there. I think that this was a really powerful book because he talked about all of the different challenges that he had to endure. But he never gave up no matter what anybody said or who put him down, he found a way to get it down, and because he didn't give up he became a navy seal, sniper.

Life in motion: An unlikely Ballerina

By Misty Copeland
I decided to read this book over the summer because I had always heard of Misty Copeland but never really understand who she was or how impressive her story is. She started training to become a ballerina when she was way older than any other ballerina, which put her at a disadvantage when it came to experience, but her talent and hard work put her at the head of the pack. She is scouted by all of the top ballet companies. But it is a difficult journey for Misty Copeland in having to endure racist comments about her being black. She ignores negative comments and continues to improve and get better. She did multiply performances with Prince, and ended up being one of the few blacl ballerina's in history who were able to perform with ABT ballet company. Her story was really inspiring and impressive and I would recommend this book to anybody.

By Jordan Romero and Linda Le Blanc
This book is about a 13 year old kid who climbed the 7 summits (actually 8 different summits). Jordan Romero wrote about his journey in trying to achieve the goal that he set for himself. After reading this book I think that Jordan Romero deserves way more credit for sumitting all of those mountains. Some of the mountains that he climbed were Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Everest, Acouncagua, Denali, Vinson, etc.
Jordan Romero set a goal for himself when he was 9 year old and continued to persevere train hard and improve and didn't stop until he sumitted the seventh mountain.

From the Dear America Series
This is actually the historical fiction book that I used for the school project. It is set in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in Salem. This town is infamously known for it's witch trials, a time where an entire group of sane people were convinced that the devil was making witches and wizards. I think that this book helped me gain insight into this time period in the form of journal entries from our character Deliverance Trembley, while she tries to sidestep the witch trial madness.

This book was actually a really interesting book. It was a memoir from this writer Walter Dean Myers. The book was about this writers life from when he was a little boy through the time he was in high school. Walter writes about his troubles in the Harlem area, in the 1940s-1950s. He writes about how difficult it was for him during that time when there was serious segregation issues.

By Sharon M. Draper
I have talked about this so book so many times before. I have read it about 3 other times, and I think I can say without a doubt that it is one of my favorite books if not my favorite one. Sharon M. Draper did such an amazing job on this book. She made me connect with the characters, and described the plot so well that I had a mini movie playing in my mind. The plot of the book is about a girl, Melody who has severe cerebral palsy. She is a genius, but has no way of expressing how smart she is because she can't use words. The book is about all of the challenges that she encounters, in terms of people doubting her and making fun of her because she is in a wheelchair. I can't relate to her battle to cerebral palsy but I can definetely relate to encountering challenges and people doubting me.

By Ann Rinaldi
This book is about the development of America, and the civil war through the eyes of an indentured slave girl, Eulinda. She writes about her perspective on the war, through encounters with the Yankees and the confederates. She documents the going on's during the 1860s. She talks about the Emancipation proclamation, and the troubles that she encounters with people that see her by her race. I would recommend this book to a friend because her story is really amazing and it was interesting to see the events through her perspective.

By Amy Efaw
This book was about a 19 year old girl, who instead of college enrolled at West Point, one of the most pristine military academies in the country. I think that the title of this book is signifigant as well because a huge struggle that she faces at West Point is gender bias. People at the academy treated or differently, or of lesser value time and time again, even after she continues to prove herself. I like this book because it describes challenges that you can face in life, but not to let it get in your way and continue to persevere. Andi, the main character proves to us that bias can not stand in the way, you can't let it stand in your way, and if you want something you have to work for it.

By Elizabeth George Speare
I read this book for a project in social studies, and actually ended up liking it a lot.
The book took place in the 1700s during the development of the 13 colonies, and the witch trials.
Kit, the main character is from the Barbados islands. She lived there with her grandfather, but when he died she had no family left. No one left except for or Aunt, Uncle and two cousins that were living in Connecticut. So she heads there.
Connecticut is very different she discovers, the people act different and religion is very important.
In Connecticut there is this old lady, who is a suspected witch. Kit befriends her, and is soon excused of being a witch as well....
I would highly recommend this book:10/10

It is about 7 average Australian teenagers who, go on a camping trip, and come back to find that an unidentified force had imprisoned all members of the town and were trying to claim Australia as their own. This book takes us through their fight to keep their independence, and to free their friends and family.
