         <description><![CDATA[<p>After WW2, Western Europe was a disaster, and the US was worried that if America didn't help pay to rebuild those countries, then the Soviet Union would. They were trying to stop the spread of communism, so the US provided European countries billions of dollars and supplies. George Marshall provided $17 billion of US funds to Europe, the aid produced record levels of trade with American firms but most importantly helped keep the countries away from accepting Stalins help. </p>]]></description>

The USA put blockades on Cuba but eventually were taken down because negotiations were made and missiles were withdrawn from Cuba. This was the closest the world has been to a global nuclear war.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>After the end of WW2 the Allies met at the Yalta conference and the Potsdam Conference to determine the punishment for Germany. They split Germany in half; the Eastern half went to the Soviet Union, and the Western half went to the US. Stalin wanted to kick the western powers out of the city, and in the Berlin Blockade, he blocked off all access to West Berlin, closing roads and railways, which meant no one in the west could get food or resources. Truman responded by starting the Berlin Airlift, sending food, fuel, and supplies by air to the city.</p>]]></description>

This then lead to the space race, American scientists immediately  developed new satellites and resources, and they kept going back and forth. </p>]]></description>
