Being that there are three columns, provide at least one instance from either your middle or high school rotation where you can recall one of the following engagements being applied. Pick one or even two of the three different types of engagement that you would like to write about and discuss afterwards.

During my middle school rotation I always allowed students to choose their group members but I also made sure to mix it up at times. Reason being is that I wanted them to get to know each other better but to also see whether or not they are able to collaborate with people who they are not particularly familiar with. Fortunately enough, students were always able to build a positive group environment no matter their circumstances.

During my middle school rotation, my students were engaged by asking a thought-provoking question that challenged their knowledge or to get clarification. Students in my GT class usually fell within the cognitive engagement.

In terms of getting students to actually meaningfully contribute, I think that is where moving around the classroom during independent or group work is important. If students are working in groups, I will always be moving around with probing questions for as many students as I can. Depending on their level of understanding I can ask higher levels of questioning to keep their momentum going and engagement there.
