1. Obedience, not betrayal
Prayer is a symbol of obedience (taat) to Allah.
- When we pray sincerely, we show loyalty and commitment to Him.
Praying without effort or seriousness can be seen as “betraying” the trust of ibadah, because prayer is an amanah from Allah.

2. Focus is a form of jihad
Maintaining focus in prayer is a spiritual struggle (jihad).
- Distractions during prayer mostly come from shaitan, whose goal is to disturb our concentration.
Every effort to refocus the heart and mind is rewarded as a struggle in the path of Allah.

3. Khushu’ because we are meeting Allah
Prayer is not just a routine; it is a moment where we stand before Allah.
- Realising that we are communicating directly with our Creator helps us develop humility, fear, hope and love towards Him.
Khushu’ grows when we truly understand who we are facing in prayer.

4. Guided by principles
Prayer should be performed based on strong principles, not emotions or mood.
- Whether we feel motivated or not, prayer remains a priority.
This principle builds discipline and consistency in our relationship with Allah.

5. Tawadu’ (humility)
Khushu’ is closely linked to tawadu’, which means humbling ourselves before Allah.
- We acknowledge our weaknesses and our constant need for His mercy and guidance. A humble heart allows the prayer to be more meaningful and sincere.

Additional Reflections

Perform every prayer as if it is the last prayer of our life.

“Fake it until you make it” : even if khushu’ does not come naturally at first, continue trying. With consistency and sincerity, true khushu’ will eventually develop.
