I can use design challenges in class to let students create prototypes to solve real-life problems- for example in the designing of Science prototypes like a boat.

Students can use simple digital design tools to visualise their ideas before building them- a solar panel car, art etc

This visit was eye-opening and inspired me to think of new ways to engage my students in hands-on learning.

I enjoyed collaborating with colleagues and seeing how technology can spark curiosity and innovation in the classroom.

Takeaways:

- There are two different types of tools to build 3D model. The one which I am more familiar with is the 3D printer which is an additive tool that builds geometry by adding material. From this session, I learned that 3D model can also be built using subtractive tools to remove material from an existing solid.

- Love how Bernina sewing machine can make pretty embroidery simple for users - uploading available images or drawings using ipad.

- Love how students' problem solving skills can be developed through prototyping.

Classroom applications:

- Get students to print 3D models used for teaching concepts and solving real life problems.

-Introduce software like Tinkercad to the students to bring their creations to life.

Using movable furniture and focus on the process instead of the product.

To encourage documentation of processes and create a culture of sharing and feedback in a safe environment.

Challenges:

- Competencies level of facilitators and students' readiness.

- Bring abstracts to life for Math and Science learning.

- Develop creativity in Art aspect during designing.

- Develop critical thinking skills and promote 21st cc skills: design, create and improve.

Learning takes place more meaningful through hands-on activities.
