By Todd Whitaker, Jimmy Casas and Jeffrey Zoul.
Being disconnected as a learner from the rest of the world is now a choice that educators make. What really resonated with me is that connected educators are very open with their sharing in order to support best practices everywhere. Connected Educators also know that they need to unplug and not be online 24/7. They need to unplug, focus on non-virtual relationships and themselves so that they can continue to support others in the virtual world-without fear of burning out.
Stacey Wallwin
SGDSB

This book will provide you with ideas and support to get your innovation journey started.

What does being an innovator educator take? "Sawdust. Lots of Sawdust" (p.123). How does sawdust relate to being innovative? We want our students to be innovative, to make something new and better from the world we live in. Sawdust is no longer a worthless by-product. Sawdust can be found in our furniture, it can be used to protect our environment and it can be found in the food manufacturing process. Sawdust is everywhere...but without innovation it would still be just "sawdust". We can all be innovative and our students deserve educators who are willing to take that risk!

Throughout the book he struggles with the role that has been assigned to him as the oldest son, and as a member of an elite caste system. The traditions and culture of East India are woven throughout the book and help make the book a rich read. Despite the cultural references, I think the issues that Anil struggles with relate to all of us in some form or another I enjoyed this book and the characters in it.

By Michael Fullan and Andy Hargreaves
Reviewed: Stacey Wallwin
As outlined in the book we already have the resource to make the changes necessary to provide our students with the 21st century competencies and learning that will equip them to be successful and lifelong learners:educators. It's how we utilize, develop and support teachers that makes the difference in shifting change. Fullan and Hargreaves provide actionable steps to transform the readily available capital that currently exists within the system. By providing them with opportunities to develop human capital (skills, competency, efficacy), social capital (the relationships within the system and the network the individuals are connected with) and decisional capital (entrusting those with the ability to make professional decisions) we empower educators to support the change needed in education.

By Zoe Whittall
Reviewed: Stacey Wallwin

What happens when a well-respected teacher from a prominent family is accused of a morally and professionally damaging accusation? The fall out for the accused is just as powerful for the family. The accused is not the only victim of the claims. How quickly are we willing to judge others? How easily are we willing to cut people out of our lives when they most need us?
It was an "okay" read. I was intrigued because of the premise- a well regarded teacher is accused by a student, unfortunately the end is not as well developed and the characters are poorly developed. I feel it didn't live up to the hype.

By Fredrik Backman
Reviewed: Stacey Wallwin
How hard can it be to kill oneself? Ove asks himself this question every day as he plans to kill himself so that he can once again be with his recently departed wife. Trust me- this book is not as depressing as this intro sounds! A Man Called Ove is a heartwarming rad and had me in tears. I connected with Ove and loved that in the end his heart truly was too big for his body. A MUST READ!!
