Thank you for keeping us safe and healthy to continue our work, and we ask for your healing power and protection for our loved ones who are recovering from any illness, or going through symptoms or side effects of the virus.

Connect our head, heart, and hands to do the work you have set out for us to do. Connect also our sense of productivity to our sense of rest, so that we may be better listeners for your word that you’ve prepared just for us. I played some instrumental ghibli music during one of our sessions and saw Mariel's face light up. We found out we both liked Ghibli films! She sent me a nice documentary of Hayao Miyazaki which I enjoyed on a long weekend. I love Mariel's gentle, grounding, surprising presence <3 Oh and I watched Arcane because of her also. hahaha -TJ

2017 - MAGIS Invited to NASWEI's EJK Book Launch

This was in Sulu Hotel when we were invited by Ms. Rose Sequitin of University of Southern Philippines to a book launch they had sponsored where social workers compiled their stories about the extrajudicial killings. I was moved by how the social workers felt so much during this time but also felt they needed support for their work. It made me realize how our work is so relevant. We gave Ms. Rose's social work students an Aesthetics of Self Care Workshop a year after.

2013 - Preparing for Poiesis

The first expressive arts conference with Paolo Knill and Margo Knill made me feel like a wonderland opened up. Doing administrative or back-end work for an event designed to introduce what expressive arts was to Filipinos was nerve-wracking but the presence of the Knills and the entire MAGIS Team during those days felt reassuring that even if I didn't quite know if I was doing the right thing, I was headed the right direction.

Roadtrip to Visions of Hope Batangas

Miah and I drove 3 hours to Batangas to visit our client Visions of Hope. We almost got lost along the way but thankfully we arrived at their center in one piece. Aside from being inspired by the work they do, I felt really grateful to be received by their administrative team who were so enthusiastic and excited to hear about MAGIS and the kind of work we do. We didn't do any kind of support group or any kind of expressive arts activity. We were just ourselves, the admin team, sharing about the work we do to people who are willing to listen. It was real nice to talk about our work with people who understood the challenges that go through the nitty gritty of administrative work. It was real talk, team talk. I'll never forget it.

Expressive Arts Workshop with the University of Asia and Pacific

One of the most memorable workshops that I participated in Magis. We were equipped with the necessary skills in facilitating groups. We went to Culion, Palawan after this to conduct a psychosocial support group activity with the Indigenous People (Tagbanwa) after the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013. -JV
