My parents are from Vietnam. They emigrated out of Vietnam as refugees to Taiwan and Hong Kong to escape the Vietnam war. I love living in Oakland because it is really diverse and there is a Chinatown that lets me get all my favorite childhood food! I think migration is beautiful and lets us share cultural traditions, food, music and art!  I am grateful for Vietnamese and Chinese food. My favorite food is pho, dimsum and Thai food! I would like to ask new immigrants, how they can feel most supported and what do they miss most about where they are from. I love all the different food and people here in San Francisco as well as all the parks and nature! I also miss my friends, family, and the amazing skies back in Oklahoma City. The house that I live and grew up in is the house that all my family that moved from the Philippines starting in the 70s lived in before they moved to other parts of the United States. I love my community in the Excelsior because there are all types of food from different migrant communities such as Hawaiian, Mexican, Guatemalan, Vietnamese, Chinese, Taiwanese and so much more! My family left the Philippines because there was a harmful government and wanted more freedom to live, work and earn as they please.
