The korean war was a proxy war so both of the korean sides were supported by the different powers. The US supported and the USSR supported the North Proxy war. The made the cold war for the powers a bit more difficult seeing that there were different countries that supported and wanted the same thing as the superpowers this made the conflict more intense. The war connects to today because there are still communist around the world and the korean war was to prevent it, there is still communism in the North(example).
