One key element used within our film to represent the characters was clothing. We purposely had the protagonists in standard everyday clothes not only so the audience could identify their innocence within the plot, but also as they are the typical outfits that our target audience would be wearing, therefore if they see those clothes on screen they will feel they can relate more to the characters.

We were also dressing the antagonists in very dark colours to represent their intentions but we also had them in very well known clothing brands such as Adidas and Superdry so whilst they were wearing clothing items such as tracksuit bottoms, hoodies and balaclavas which would all be associated with items of clothing which would be worn by a lower class or in the case of balaclavas possibly criminals and more of a niche audience. However, the brands of clothing which the characters worn were universally known and will enable a mass audience to relate to the characters regardless of the specific item being worn. In short, we feel that whilst the antagonists outfits as a whole represent a lower class of society that we are trying to attract, the actual brands of the clothes help to supplement that by representing a wide range of classes and societies.

We carefully chose the choice of language for all of the characters. We had the antagonists using very threatening vocabulary and hostile actions throughout which helped to represent the antagonists as this hostile bitter gang who will stop at nothing to gain revenge, very much representing the typical street gang which are common across the country, and whilst not many people within our target audience can relate to gang crime, we felt by representing them in a negative and overly aggressive light we felt that would enable the audience to do the opposite and rather than relate to them go against them.

One of the key messages that will be taken from our film is that of the dangers involving gang crime. Given this is quite a hot topic particularly in urban areas across the country at the moment we felt it would be a good opportunity to capitalise on it by using a story based around the negative consequences of leaving gangs within our film, which have happened in a real life scenario. Another important message that can be taken from our film is for people to be careful who they trust and who their friends are, this message being extremely evident at the end of the film when James double crosses Adam. As with the other message, this can be referred to real life events in which people have been double crossed in order for the perpetrator to better their own lives or in James' case, achieve survival.

We also felt the fact that the location was very run down and slightly isolated helped to represent the gangs intellect, as the fact that the location was out of the public eye meant that there would be no interference which would prevent them from achieving their goals, this therefore ensures the location helps to represent the fact that the gang members are extremely street wise and use their initiative as its out of the way from the rest of society which they chose to take the hostages.

Teenagers

Another one of the main representations within our film is that of teenagers. Teenagers are represented in two contrasting ways by both sets of characters. Vincent and Tyler represent teenagers as ruthless, lacking empathy and willing to cause others misery to achieve their goals. Whereas, Adam represents the selfless teenager who will help others who are in need, even if it means hurting himself in the process. We have chosen to include both of these representations within our film as we feel the first stereotype (Vincent and Tyler) represents the older generations view of what teenagers are like today. Whereas, the second representation we feel is a more accurate representation of what teenagers are actually like whilst also challenging the first representation, and represents a view that is more similar to that of modern society and we feel by showing both of the two main stereotypes that it would accurately cover societies contrasting views. Both of these representations are rarely seen within the Thriller genre, as the characters are often adults, so we felt strongly that there was a gap in the market to include these two stereotypes in our film as it is a situation that is rarely addressed and being of the teenage age group we felt we could give an extremely good insight into the different stereotypes of teenagers.

Another key representation present within our film is the way the male gender is represented. Males are represented in our film as being extremely power hungry and that they will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, for good or for bad. We have chosen to include these stereotypes which are reasonably common in society within our film as we felt given the complexity of the location and hazards such as the rooftop and chase scene around the factory within our film and the many combat and fear induced scenarios there are within our film we felt the best way to represent the male gender would be by using the stereotype that they are fearless, power hungry and desperate to achieve their goals as this representation ensured the characters worked extremely well with the location. This is also a common representation of males in the Thriller genre.
