Brazil is a very touristic site. So touristic that many people go to see the beautiful places and architecture. Brazil has the population of 200.4 million of people in 2013. This effects the biodiversity of the ecosystem by the fact that fossil fuel usage will rise. The increased use of fossil fuels has a negative effect on the health of the environment in terms of air and water pollution. Rising fossil fuel use also means a greater amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, higher greenhouse gas emissions, and global warming.

São Paulo is one of Brazil’s most populated cities. It represents around six percent of Brazil’s total population with over 10 million residents. Unfortunately, Brazil has had a bad past when trying to house all of these residents equally and fairly. In general, the principal housing option for the poor is to build-it-yourself or the purchase of a house in an informal settlement. Sao Paulo is over populated because of the corruption in the government. Even though it is the richest city among the third of world, many people still aren't able to receive basic social welfare from the government. The government doesn't put enough resources out to the people. People live as big families in a small inhumane places. Illness and diseases are very common in these slums.

About 32% of the world’s urban population live in slums. The problem of poor housing quality is overwhelmingly concentrated in the developing world. Sao Paulo has the largest slum population in South America. Here, urban poverty is concentrated in two types of housing, favelas and corticos.

Unfortunately, losses of animal and plant species are restricted neither to temperate zone urban areas nor to the developed world. Urban impacts on biological diversity reach their most devastating in the Third World. Less than 2% of the Atlantic forests of coastal Brazil within the urban reach of Sao Paulo remain, and it has been estimated that thousands of species from this region of high endemic have been driven to extinction, most never having been described by taxonomists. In some ways, the world’s seventh-richest country has made remarkable environmental progress in recent years. In the past decade, Brazil reduced its CO2 emissions by more than any other country, largely by curtailing deforestation in the Amazon basin. In June 2015, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and U.S. President Barack Obama announced a joint effort of address mate change, in which both countries pledged to increase their power generation from renewable energy to 20% by 2030 — a powerful statement ahead of the U.N. climate change summit in Paris later this year

Favelas are one of the places that the poor have to rely on when they have no other housing option. From 1973 to 2007, the amount of houses in the favelas grew from 14,504 to 377,236.

The dimensions of São Paulo’s housing problem demand attention and resources from both the federal and state government, but in recent years, the São Paulo government has become more attuned to long-term slum and favela upgrading. With the government playing an active role with aid from a global alliance, Cities Alliance, the city has been able to focus on improving the conditions of the slums and favelas.
In 2006, the São Paulo Municipal Housing Secretariat created management information system that is now able to track that status of favelas and other sites that need improvement. In 2008, Cities Alliance hosted high-ranking officials from other major cities to discuss the challenge of slum upgrading. The legal steps involved in establishing a clear land title are hazy. There are also issues with squatters, people who occupy buildings without having lawful permission to do so. Landowners are worried that if they build, their buildings will become filled with squatters who will provide no compensation. There is a change happening for the good in São Paulo. There is general agreement in São Paulo that the communities within these slums must band together and help turn things around. It is not just the government that can help. With community leaders that act as mediators that advocate for the community stepping up, São Paulo will continue to improve its housing conditions.

An alternative to this scheme is to provide the residents of the shanty towns with the materials to improve their existing shelters. Residents are also encouraged to set up community schemes to improve education and medical services. Residents may also be given rights of ownership whilst local authorities come in and provide electricity, water and sewerage disposal. The could also these are schemes whereby the government will provide a site and basic amenities such as water and sewer facilities. The migrant is given rights of ownership and then expected to complete the work at his or her expense. This is often done as a cooperative between groups of migrants. In other situations, the authorities just provide the plot and building materials for the migrants to construct their own homes
