Cornell notes are well organized notes. The notes are organized because the paper is split into sections. On the first three lines is your title. The paper is cut into half, on one half is your key ideas or questions that you might have, and on the other half is your notes and any thoughts you have. At the bottom of the page is your summary.

The way that I would use this is by having my students read a chapter of our topic and write their notes. The note they write they will be allowed to use on a test. For the younger grades I would watch a video and have the students take notes on the video that was presented.

Padlet is virtual bulletin board. On the padlet students can title their topic, write a description on what the padlet is going to be about, change the background color of the padlet, and many more. This is a cool online source that allows students to connect in different ways. A teacher could pose a question and all the students write their responses under the posed question. Students could use it as a toolbox, or teachers could use it at a source to distribute different links or articles that will help benefit the students' knowledge.

The way that I would use this source is by posing a question on the bulletin board and having my students click on the plus sign to add their comment to the source. Another way that I would use the source is for parents. Going through a pandemic I think that the students missed out because their parents did not understand what was being presented. On padlet I would have different resources under our topics that are presented in class. For example, if I am teaching about phonics I could put links under the phonics description to help the students understand how to teach that given topic. Another way I could use this is to provide students work on the padlet. I could make a column that represents each student, and I could post their work, or different pictures, for their families to see.

Dashboard | Padlet

Pre- writing is where we generate out ideas on a piece of paper. Students pick a topic and write everything they know about that topic. When students are pre-writing, we are not looking for punctuation, spelling, capitals. This is where students get their ideas down on paper, so that if they need to, they can refer back to the pre-writing to help them get more ideas down on their final draft.

The way that I would use this in my classroom is by presenting a topic to my students and giving them time to generate their ideas. The students can make lists, use an outline, or anyway that will help them organize their ideas.

Jigsaw groups are where students break into a small group. These groups are then broken into groups of 4. That group is then broken into even smaller groups to become an expert on what is being presented. The students will return from their expert groups and present their topic to their small groups. Students are involved and doing their own learning. The students go from home groups to their jigsaw groups and back to their home groups to share their findings.

The way that I would use Jigsaw groups in my classroom is through animal reports. My students would be in their home groups (animal choice) then break into their jigsaw groups, the groups could be where the animal lives, what they eat, what the animal looks like, and different things the animals can do. This can be used for math, reading, writing, and science. This is a fun way for all students to feel like a "teacher."

DECODING

Decoding is the ability where students can pull apart letters and sounds to analyze words where the students will translate print into speech. When students are decoding a text, the students will be finding the main idea, or in writing the students will compose a sentence or a paragraph.

The way that I would use decoding in my classroom is through phonics. In Kindergarten we have a phonics program that helps the students by identifying letters and sounds, then we move into decoding words CVC, start to understand vowels, then we put it all together. I think decoding is huge for students. The more we help them decode words or texts the better they will be when it comes to finding main ideas. For reading I would first model how to decode a text. We would talk about how I find the main idea of the text. What cues do I use to help me decode a text?

WHEEL OF NAMES

Wheel of names is random name generator. This can be used to call on students at random. A random generator is great for teachers to use, so that we do not call on the same student all the time. For the generator, you place each student's name in the generator, then push spin. The generator will spin and spin and stop on a student's name and that is the student that will answer the question that is posed.

The way that I will use this is during morning work, calendar time, phonics, math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. It is important that we randomly call on students, so that all students feel like they are getting a chance and, so that our students can all be called on to answer questions. Students get upset if they are not called on, if I visually have a random generator up on the board the students can see that it is the generator and not me just calling on students. I have used something similar to this other than I just pull names out of a mason jar. This is easier to make sure that everyone is called on.

Teachers use different time sounds for different activities.

The way that I would use a timer is during centers. I would have 5 different centers around my room. The students will get 15 minutes at each center. Once the timer goes off the students will then have to clean up and move to a different center.

The Frayer Model is very easy to follow. This is how we can help students understand vocabulary. The word that we are learning about is placed in the middle. Around the word are different ideas about the word. A definition, synonyms, antonyms, and facts. This can be used for any age group. The model just might look different. For instance, if this is presented to a kindergarten classroom, we probably won't ask them about synonyms or antonyms. We would rather have them draw a picture about the word that is being taught.

The way that I would use this in my classroom is through math. When we are talking about addition or subtraction, I would have my students write the word in the middle, we would write a definition together, and then have them draw a picture about addition. Another way to use this is through vocabulary lessons. When we are reading a book, if there is a word the student doesn't know he or she can write the word in the middle and the refer back the Frayer model and fill in the missing aspects of the page.

Fist 1-5 helps the teacher understand the students understanding of a given topic. Once a lesson is done being presented the teacher will sit the students on the carpet or at their desks. The teacher will have the students put their fist close to their chest. The teacher will then say "on the topic that was presented show me how much you understand the topic. A fist means you do not understand the topic at all, a 1 means you need more help, and a 5 means you understand it and can teach a classmate." This helps the teacher observe the students' knowledge.

I use this now in my classroom. The way that I have used it is through math.

Quick Write is when a teacher gives the students a prompt to write about, the prompt could be anything: animals, school, sports, family, etc. Once the prompt is given to the class, they will have 30 seconds to a minute to think about what they are going to write. Once that is done the students will then be given certain amount of time 1-5 minutes to write about that prompt. The students can write about anything that comes to mind when they think of the given prompt. The only thing with quick writing is, they must write the whole time and stop writing when the timer goes off.

The way that I would use this in my classroom is before every writing lesson. This will help the students get their mind ready the writing activity that will be taught. Another way that I would use this is for bell work. Give the students a topic and have their brain start to think and get ready for the day.

It is important that the teacher reads through the read aloud first and places sticky notes on the pages where he or she wants to think aloud. The sticky note could be comments, questions, clarification, connection, and may more. This just helps the students to understand what the teacher is thinking as the book is being read aloud.

The way that I would use this is through any type of read aloud. What ideas, positions, or assumptions do you want to Challege or argue within the text? The next 4c is changes, what changes in the attitudes, thinking, or action are suggested by the author? This helps the students understand the text better.

The way that I would implement this into my classroom is by presenting a new C every day. We would start by reading a text, then my students would discuss the connections they have made within the text. Each day we would read the same text but add a new C.

HowtoWriteaResearchReportUsingthebookJusttheFacts-1 (1).pdf

There are 13 tools and guidelines to help students write their research report. The first tool is starting with a topic, second, begin the research, third is where the students start to brainstorm, the fourth is where students take notes on their topic, the fifth tool is where the students start to create an outline, the sixth, is an introduction, the outline helps the writer break the introduction into different ideas that the writers could use: statement, a single word, a sound, and many more. The seventh, is the body paragraphs, eighth is topic sentences and details. The ninth, is ways that the sentence can start, tenth is the conclusion, eleventh and twelve is where the students check off their list of what should be in the report, last is your reference page.

The way that I would use this in my classroom is first by modeling how to use the tools when we are doing a research report. For kindergarten we have to do an animal report. I would model how to fill out the outline by choosing an animal as a whole class. I would model the tool until students can write independently. 2nd+ is the grade that I would allow my students to fill out the outline alone.

PowerPoint is an online resource that helps people visually see the presentation that is being presented. PowerPoints allows the presenter to have different slide that help represent different topics.

The way that I would use PowerPoint in my classroom, is by using visual representation of the topic. For example, if we are learning about our letters, I would have an uppercase and lowercase letter on one slide so that the students can visually see the letter, on one slide I would have a video of the letter, on another slide I would have different activities for the students. For the upper grades I might use this to present our notes for the day or to introduce a vocabulary word. PowerPoint can be presented in so many different ways. In my classroom I love that I can have visuals to help my students understand the topic being presented.

Podcast are presented by individuals or multiple people. The podcasts are normally about news reports, stories, or people having a conversation with one another.

The way that I would use this in my classroom is by having my students create a podcast on a book they read or a conversation they had with a peer. For example, the GLP walk that we went on in class would be something I would like to do with my students. Another way to use this in my classroom is by having the students do a book report. After their book report instead of having them write a report I would have them talk about their findings.

Bell work is work that the students do as they enter the classroom. Bell work helps the students to get ready for the day. Most bell work has a mix of math and reading. Bell work can come in any different form. It can be a paper, something for the students to do, a question on the board, a reading, or many more. Bell work helps the students brain start working. This is also a great time for the teacher to take role.

I already use bell work in my classroom. I have something different for them each day. If I forget it, they let me know. The bell work that I give my students has a mix of math, reading and writing. That is normally adding or subtracting, reading is finding the correct beginning sound within a picture, and writing, my student has to find what is wrong with the sentence. I normally give my students 15 minutes to complete their work.

There are so many different ways that we can get to know each other. Some teachers use posters and pictures, some use bingo cards, and some use candy. This is used at the beginning of the school year so the students can get to know one another. With this activity the students reach in the M & M bag and pick one candy. The color of the candy is the question that the student has to answer about himself or herself. This can go on as long as the students allow it to.

The way that I would use this in my classroom is by having the students sit in a big circle. We will pass the bag of candy around the room; each student will pull one candy out and I will ask the student the question that is posed to that color. Another, way that I would use the get to know me is by having the students bring back a poster all about them. I would give them questions that need to be presented on the poster and the students will come up and share their all about me poster.

One paper is a fun way to get our students thinking about the topic that is presented. Around the boarder the students will write words and draw picture about the text. In the upper left-hand box is where a quote from the texts will go. The upper right-hand corner is key ideas about the text. The long middle box is a visual that represents the main idea of the text. The bottom two boxes are for a summary of the text.

I would use this in a class when we get done reading a chapter or when I get done presenting a topic. The students will have to use the one- paper to dig deeper into their understanding of the reading or topic. The students will then share with a peer on their findings of the ideas that are presented and bounce different ideas off of each other.
