Sandra Boynton is currently 67. She was born on April 3, 1953. Her first book she wrote was when she was four years old called The Funny Animal. However, her first book that was ever published was Hippos Go Berserk in 1977. Boynton first went to college at Yale to study English. Her plans with this was to become a theater director. As her first child came along, Boynton decided to hold off on her career as a theater director. However, she has put her directing skills into use since then and has directed songs, readings, and her own son's play. Boynton has written more than 60 songs alongside pianist and composer, Michael Ford. During college, to make money, Boynton started painting water-colored animals onto gift cards and then she would sell them to shops. In her first two years, she had sold 60,000 cards. Altogether she has made about 4,000 to 6,000 different cards, with Hippo Birdie Two Ewes being one of the most famous. Her love for art is shown through all her work from books to songs to greeting cards. Boynton has published more than 50 books, in which she has both written and illustrated. Most of these books are finished before they get into her publisher's hands. In her home study in Connecticut, Boynton takes time to make sure every detail in her books, from the way words look to the way the colors go together, convey what she wants her readers to take away.

In 2006 Sandra Boynton won the NAPPA Gold Award for her book, Your Personal Penguin.
The books I read by Sandra Boynton include:
-But Not The Armadillo
- But Not The Hippopotamus
- Birthday Monsters
-Hippos Go Berserk
- I Love You little Pookie
- Barnyard Dance
-Moo, Baa, La La La
- A to Z
All the books I read were short but also intricate and fun. Boynton made sure that kids and adults alike would be able to read her stories over and over again without growing tired. Her writing style was very inspirational. Sometimes Boynton would make her words bigger than normal to show exaggeration, and sometimes she would make her words smaller. I admired how she rhymed her words in order to make each story extraordinary. I also loved her unique character choices. She took common animals and made them seem real.
Other books Boynton has published include:
- The Going To Bed Book
- Pajama Time
- Snuggle Puppy
- Philadelphia Chickens
- One Shoe Blues
- Doggies
- Belly Button Book
- Opposites
- What's Wrong, Little Pookie
- Oh My Oh MY Oh Dinosaurs
- Silly Lullaby
- Are You A Cow
- Happy Hippo, Angry Duck: a book of moods
- Perfect Piggies
- Rhinoceros Tap
- Dinosaur Dance
- Blue Moo
- One, Two, Three
- Merry Christmas, Little Pookie
- Hey!

This book begins by pointing out an armadillo and his special nose. The armadillo's nose is very important because it leads him to different places. The armadillo stays by himself most the time and does not want to play with other animals. The armadillo has other important parts to him like his ears and his toes. These parts take him to different places as well and help him do different things. He has the opportunity to play or talk with other animals he knows but he decides to keep walking away. The book ends with the armadillo alone without anyone. He is in the desert at night, looking scared.

This book is about one hippopotamus' birthday. The hippo is peacefully sleeping until...he is rudely woken by five monsters. These monsters cannot wait to celebrate the hippo's birthday. It is very early in the morning and the monsters just cannot wait for the hippo to open their gifts. Turns out... the presents were not for the hippo. All the monsters kept the gifts they brought. They rudely eat his food in the refrigerator and eat all his cake, without the poor hippo getting a slice. Then they leave. The poor hippo was alone with nothing but a mess. In the end, the monsters come back and fix all the problems they had caused before. The monsters cleaned, and even left him cake, presents, and a card.

Hippos Go Berserk is a simple counting book. The story begins with one hippo who calls two hippos. As the book goes on, each page includes the next number of hippos, up until nine. Eventually the one hippo who was all alone has forty-four hippos in his house. The night goes on with a big hippo party. There are working hippos, overdressed hippos, and even hippos who came in a sack. They all have a great time. Then morning comes and all the hippos leave. Each page counts down from nine hippos until all the hippos have left and the one hippo is by himself again. The hippo, now all alone, misses all his hippo friends.

Barnyard Dance is about a whole variety of barnyard animals getting together to dance. There are horses, bunnies, ducks, dogs, and more! Each page gives the reader a new dance move with a new animal. One page has a horse and a pig and the next page has a pig and a duck. All the animals look like they are having a grand time with each other. Some dance two by two and others in threes. Some moves include: sliding, bouncing, bowing, and twirling. The illustrations are simple, but capture the full story. The animals finish their dance with a bow and remind the reader that they will be back to do it all over again.
