You are not allowed to use music without permission especially if it is copyrighted. In order to make this work, the students would need to only use 10% of the total song. So. If he/she included a short clip of the song, then it would be okay to use the song, however, it should still be cited somewhere in the presentation where the song came from.

There are a wide variety of resources available for learning about Civil Rights. If the creator of the presentation compiled their understandings using their own words, the presentation would be fine. In regards to the song, if it were an expired copyright, the song could be used in whole, otherwise a short 30 second or 10% of the total audio clip could be used for educational purposes. The teacher should provide success criteria for the expectations of the project. Within the criteria, the teacher could specify which, how many and how to cite information, images or music.
