Hi, my name is Brandon Ha. If you can't tell already, I did my Genius Hour project on animations and how to make them. I wanted to do this because I thought it would be cool if I made an animation and and I thought that acquiring this skill may be useful in school. On my Padlet, you will find a tutorial video on how I personally did my animating. The final animation project video showcases what I was able to do for this Genius Hour project and it also shows what I have learned. Since I like playing ping pong, I thought it would be cool if I made of animation of a ping pong game. The progress checks are important milestones in my project that got lead me to the final project. The weekly reflection/journal will tell you my thoughts on what I did that week and what I plan to do next week.

Animation is the simulation of movement created by a sequence of pictures. Basically, drawings are put one after another to give the illusion of movement. Animation allows storytellers to tell stories in many different ways. We can see animation everywhere today. For example, animation is used to create cartoons and movies.

Weekly Reflections

9/11 - 9/18: I first conducted research on my topic of animation. I focused on free animation softwares that I could use for my project. After researching, I ended up with a list of possible softwares. Next week, I am going to sort of trial and see which one is the most suitable for my goals.

9/25 - 10/2: I ran into my first problem, which was I confused animated videos with animations. Then, I trialed all of my animation softwares and figured out that using an animation software isn't ideal. I decided to use a digital sketchbook, Sketchbook, and a video editor to act as an animation software. Next week, I hope to familiarize myself Sketchbook.

10/9: This week, I really looked into all of Sketchbook's features and how I could you them in my animation. Next week, I am going to actually start on my animation.

10/16 - 10/23: I started to work on my animation this week. The first step in animation is drawing what you are going to animate, which is what I did in Progress Check 1. Next week, I plan to add movement to the ball.

10/30: In Progress Check 2, you could see that I had the ball move in between the two players. In ping pong game, the players will mostly likely have to move, which is what I will be aiming to do next week.

11/6: This week, I worked on Progress Check 3. Some things that I added was that I animated the bottom player. In Progress Check 2, I had the ball only travel one path, so I added an additional path to the ball.

11/13 - 11/20: Progress Check 4 had the most improvements by far. First, I changed the background from white to gray to make it look better. Second, I animated the top person and added a few more paths for the ball to take. In ping pong, the ball can travel in many ways, so I represented this by adding streaks behind the ball to indicate that it is moving fast and I also had the ball curve around the net. Next week, I will be working on my final draft. I plan to use all of the different elements from the Progress Checks to create something that I think looks cool and I am proud of. I will also try to start a little bit of my Padlet.

12/4: I contributed this week to completing my animation project. I didn't add too many new things. I looked at my past Progress Checks and took pieces of each that I liked. Then, I had to put each piece into sequence that makes sense. After doing this, I finished my animation project!

This is a recap of my whole Genius Project and how felt throughout it. At the beginning of the Genius Hour project, I felt a little bit unmotivated. I wasn't actually doing any animating and I ran into some problems. However, I was able to solve those problems and I was finally ready to began animating. When the second half of the Genius Hour Project rolled around, I was a lot more excited because I was actually doing what I wanted to do. At this point, I had fun doing project and I enjoyed it. Although my project didn't start off so well, it got a lot better and because of that, I can say I enjoyed doing this project and I am glad I picked animation as my topic.
