My 4th grade teacher made the most impact on my life and set my course to become an educator. I never wanted to do anything different since the age of 10. She played a key role in my life during a difficult struggle. She was there for me, listened to me, spent time catching me up when I fell behind. I would stop and visit her often as I walked home from Junior High. She never stopped believing in me. Unfortunately I'm unable to tell her this now, but I carry a piece of her in my heart to this day.

My high school English teacher was a great role model. She knew that everyone learned in a different way so she offered things like choice, partner work, and whole group collaboration. You never felt singled out in her room. She was caring and wanted everyone to get the concepts. She was also available to help when anyone needed extra assistance. I think of her fondly to this day!

I moved to a small town in Iowa (from Pennsylvania) due to my parents' divorce when I was in sixth grade. My ELA teachers were so welcoming and made me feel like everything was going to be OK! That transition could have been much rougher had it not been for these two wonderful women! When I think of them I am reminded of how important it is to build those relationships with kids and make them feel accepted!

!
