First, the fear of there actually being witches and so many people being accused scared people into actually thinking that witches could be real. The power of fear made people very nervous. The accusers were mainly women, as stated in the DBQ and as shown on the map to the left most accusers were on the west side which happens to be the poor side of the Salem community. This may mean that the poor accusers were targeting the rich.
