I find that my 6th graders sometimes rely too heavily on being told what methods to use to solve problems. I had a young group of girls this year who were amazing at listening to each other's ideas, sharing information, encouraging each other etc. They had strong social-emotional skills so they weren't upset when their idea didn't work or wasn't chosen. Others in my class could not handle the exchange and would shut down.
