  • Place the cursor among the data and click Ctrl-A to select all. Then go to the top and select Insert, then select Pivot table. Press ok.
  • Once the new page is launched, a field list is shown on the right. If it doesn’t show up, right click on Pivot Table and select Show Field List. Drag the fields into the columns, rows, and values sections of the field list to create your pivot table.
     
    • For example, to do the first chart of Gender Distribution, you drag Gender to Row, Residents to Value.
  •  
    • For 2nd chart on Residents by Age Group and Housing Type, you drag Age Group to Rows, Housing Type to Column and Residents to Value.
  •  
  • If you like to change the measures, select the black arrow at the field in the Values section followed by Value Field Settings. Select your choice e.g. Average, Count, …etc.
 
How to Create Pivot Charts
  • Place cursor anywhere in the pivot table and select Insert at the top. Choose chart of your choice. E.g. Donut Chart, Column Chart, Line Chart.
  • To declutter, right-click the grey buttons and select Hide All Filed Buttons. Also, select green PLUS sign on the right to deselect grid lines. 
  • The green PLUS sign allows you to add chart title, and data labels…etc.
 
How to Add Summary Table
  • Summary table is just another pivot table at the back. Once you have done the appropriate calculations, just equate the fields in the summary section to the relevant data in the pivot table. Don’t forget to include the Summary Pivot table in the Report connections when adding slicers.
 
How to assemble Dashboard
  • Arrange charts and summary table in the dashboard neatly. 
  • If too many charts are needed, you can organise them in themes in each excel tab. Slicers, when selected, will apply to different tabs of the excel file.
 
How to Add Slicers
  • Ensure cursor is in a pivot table or chart. Go to the top and select Insert. Look for the slicer(s) that you need and select those fields.
  • To connect slicer to charts, right click slicer and select Report Connections. Ensure that you select all the charts  you want connected, and do this for each slicer.
  • Test to ensure every chart and summary changes when differ options are selected.
