This quote is interesting because it is talking about how someone hides behind their own guilt and lies. Even though I didn't necessarily choose this quote I find it interesting in how it relates to how people in society hide behind their own false identities.

1. I was driving my friend Cameron around who kept talking about Hamlet and so I said my quote. He didn't understand what I said and actually thought it was from Hamlet.

2. I was talking about politicians with my parents and when I recited my quote and said how it was similar to how politicians act. They though that this was interesting but didn't know it was from Macbeth until I told them.

3. I also said it once when I was picking my brother up from the trolley station and he was talking about how some people in his school don't act the same around certain people than others. He just ignored me and went on talking.

Relationship from Star Wars to Quote

The character Palpatine in Star Wars relates to this quote in many ways. For example, in the beginning of the saga the audience sees Palpatine as just the Supreme Chancellor who seems to be a good man until he is later revealed to be a sith lord. This relates to the quote in how Palpatine is also hiding behind a false identity similarly to how Macbeth acts like he's innocent after he kills Duncan. This quote also relates to Anakin because he also acted like he was fine after killing the Sand People as revenge for his mother's death even though he felt incredibly guilty for his actions. This relates to Macbeth because he also acts like he is fine after going through all the murders which slowly causes him to go crazy as he hides his guilt from everyone.

1. Bill Cosby who is a comedian was recently convicted numerous cases of drugging and raping women. Like the quote from Macbeth, he went about his life even though he had committed these horrible crimes. Until these accusations arose he seemed like a very likable person and these crimes show how he was hiding behind a mask.

2. The O.J. Simpson murder case is also another example of hiding behind false claims. In the murder case, O.J. Simpson is accused of murdering his wife and has surmounting evidence against him but still claims to be innocent and ends up getting away with it. This is significant because it shows how some people can claim that certain things aren't true and get away with it even though they are clearly lying/wrong like how Macbeth blames Duncan's murder on the guards even though he knows it not to be true.

3. Another case would be when Bill Clinton lied about having an affair when in court and committed perjury. This is a perfect example because Clinton was trying to preserve his image as president and ended up backfiring and getting him nearly impeached.

Final Reaction to Quote

This quote's meaning is that you must put on a face personality or "face" to hide what you don't want other's to know. I also begged the question is Macbeth had been putting on a fake face before or after he killed Duncan in the sense that this is how he's always been but hasn't ever revealed it to anyone. This is significant to Shakespeare because it illustrates how he was trying to point out the flaws in society that he had noticed. This quote also has some significance to me as it opened me up to seeing how people in our society use things like social media to put on a fake persona in order to be accepted by others even though it is not necessarily true.
