Conor has a very hard time letting go of things, like when he has to go to his grandmothers’ house all he ever does is complain about having to be there. “Grandma’s house is an old lady’s house.” “You can’t touch anything or sit anywhere.” “I want my own room in my own house.” Or when he has to let go of his mother. “No!” (this is during the part where the real monster grabs his mother) At the end of the story the tree monster tells him that he(Conor) wanted his mother to both go and stay. At the end Conor learns sometimes you have to let go.

By: Suzanne Collins
The main character Katniss is a survivalist. She proves this by instead of making camp near nightfall, she instead climbs a tree, hooks her sleeping bag to it, and then falls asleep with the advantage of height. This has actually worked out for her when the Careers found her one day then used the advantage to defeat them using the tracker jacker strategy. Not only does a trait like this help out in the Games, but also in District 12 where she is able to hunt and help not only herself, but her family survive as well.

Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl

Author- Anne Frank

The protagonist is a girl named Anne Frank. She is a young girl who just wants a normal life, she wants friends and privileges, but she can’t have these things because she is Jewish. This story is taken place during the times of the Holocaust, where the Nazis would take the lives of the Jews because they wanted to get rid of them. Because of this, Anne Frank and her family had to go into hiding where they called the “Secret Annexe”. She was scared but at the same time, she just wanted a normal life. She didn’t have true friends, so she wrote in her diary to her imaginary friend who she called “Kitty”. The text evidence which proves this is “I’ve come to the root of the matter, the reason for my starting this diary: it is that I have so such real friend.” She continues to say “I have waited so long, I don’t want to set down a series of bald facts in a diary like most people do, but I want this diary itself to be my friend, and I shall call my friend Kitty.”. The theme of this story is, you should always have hope.

-Trinity Rodriguez
