Word Study - A little confusing?

It's come to my attention that some at home support for word study is needed. =)

Each week students will bring home a new list of words, of which they will be tested on on Fridays. The test will consist of 2 points per word: one point for the correct spelling of the word, and the second point for being able to sort it into the correct spelling pattern category.

We practice our words every day in class. We do activities in our notebooks and through the word study website (link in Schoology).

As a parent though - it is confusing to know what the categories are for that week. The hope is that your child could teach you and show you the correct ones. Well, we are just getting started and being only a few weeks in that has proven to be difficult. I will start having students write their categories clearly on their paper, in order to assist with that at home support. If you ever have any questions about certain words, let me know!

As far as homework goes, the tic-tac-toe is something I send home for the first few weeks for some ideas as to how your child could study. I am NOT set in stone with these. If your child likes to study their categories and words a different way, they are welcome to do so. I do not need weekly word study homework turned in at this point. However, if word study proves to be more difficult, and I believe your child needs more time spent on it, then I will ask for it to be turned in. The extra support and practice at home is important, but can be catered to your child's learning method. =)

Hopefully this helps. Word study tests should come home graded every Friday or Monday. Let me know if you have any questions! Thank you for your amazing support!
