1. The first step to creating a picture book is for the author to create the text.
2. A quality of picture books is the relationship of the words to the images. This has many benefits, particularly for emerging readers and second-language learners.
3. The purpose of color is dependent on the context, setting, or culture of a book. I think most Americans would feel warning or anger with red. However, if it is a book based on a Middle Eastern or Asian culture, red could establish power, tradition, and beauty.
4. "Love" by Matt de la Peña, illustrated by Loren Long uses calming blues and yellows to evoke a tone of peace as it relates to the emotions of being loved and loving someone. The characters are detailed enough to allow children to see themselves or someone they know in the pages. However, they are not over-detailed to the point where readers might not relate to the characters.

I chose "I am Enough" by Grace Byers. The book shared encouraging words to its readers to believe and have confidence in who they were made to be. The author used yellow as the color of the girls' shirt. Which could represent, happiness, optimism, joy, and purple for the title, which could represent royalty.

Red is a vibrant color so it could mean life or meant to stand out-wanted to be noticed-house or barn color, blood, fast sports car, fire truck.
4. A Drop of Water is full of real life images taken with a camera. They are images that add to the features and text for understanding. The technology advances is clear in this text with amazing images caught on camera. They are real life objects like water droplets, water in glasses, items splashing in water to see the form, bubbles, ice, water vapor, snowflakes, condensation, and more.

Readers can recognize or relate the color red to frustrating situations.
4. The book I choose is currently a favorite for my son. One quality of a picture book is the relationship between words and pictures. Often the pictures tell us more than what the words alone are saying.
3. The use of symbolism is key in picture books. The color red most often symbolizes anger, danger, passion, love, or intensity of some sort.
4. The book that I choose that emphasizes the aesthetic importance of picture books is "Julian is a Mermaid." I bought this book for my choice board and it is primarily artwork with very little narration or dialogue. The artwork however speaks for itself and shows the growth of a young boy into becoming his true self - a mermaid (symbolically a member of the LGBTQ community). This visual transformation of Julian to represent his coming out journey is portrayed through colorful fish, make-up, facial expressions, and beautiful textiles. It is clear what is intended through the artwork without it having to be explained.
