Aleanna Padron.

#1. IDEA mandates that schools provide individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of students with disabilities. This ensures that they receive the appropriate support and services necessary for their educational success. Schools offer a range of services, such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling, to support students with disabilities.

#2. Ensuring that resources are effectively allocated to meet the needs of all students can be challenging, especially in underfunded districts.

#3. Yes, I agree with this mandate because it ensures that all children, regardless of their abilities, have the right to an education that meets their needs. By providing access to specialized services and inclusive education, IDEA helps students with disabilities achieve their full potential and promotes a more equitable and inclusive society.

#4. If I could change one aspect of this mandate, it would be to increase federal funding to support the implementation of IDEA because adequate funding would ensure that schools have the necessary resources to provide high-quality education.

Hannah Johnson

1.) This act impacts my school in a good way. It opens more opportunities for students with disabilities. Providing IEPs tailored to them to make sure they get the education they need and deserve in the best way possible.

2.) A criticism I have from seeing it in person is sometimes teachers don't take student IEPs seriously or don't point them to the people they need to go to for help. Also not watching students who need help getting lazy about their job.

3.) I agree with the mandate. I believe every student should be treated equally and given all the opportunities they need to succeed in school and in life.

4.) One flaw this has is I think we need to have assessments or test for all students to see if they have disabilities. There was a boy in my grade that didn't get diagnosed with dyslexia until his second year of high school. If we had mandated test, we could help a lot of kids who go undiagnosed.

Zoey Rackovan

1.) How does this mandate impact your school or community?
The IDEA mandate promotes inclusivity in schools and communities by ensuring that children with disabilities receive individualized education programs (IEPs) and access to general education classrooms. This approach helps students with disabilities achieve academic success while fostering greater social integration, benefiting both the students and their peers.

2.) What are some criticisms or challenges of this mandate?
Challenges of IDEA include underfunding, which leaves schools struggling to provide necessary resources and services. Additionally, the administrative workload to ensure compliance with IDEA requirements can be overwhelming for educators and staff, detracting from time spent directly supporting students.

3.) Do you agree with this mandate? Why or why not?
Yes, I agree with the mandate because it ensures equity in education, offering children with disabilities the opportunity to succeed academically and socially. It addresses historical injustices by guaranteeing access to public education for a group that was once systematically excluded.

4.) If you could change one aspect of this mandate, what would it be and why?
I would increase federal funding to fully support IDEA implementation. This change would alleviate the financial burden on schools, ensuring they have sufficient resources, staff, and training to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities effectively.

This mandate impacts schools and communities in a positive way. It ensures students with disabilities are just as included as other students. Allowing them to be able to be taught in regular a regular classroom setting as much as possible.

1) This mandate ensures that students with disabilities are treated fairly and inclusively. The mandate has a very positive role within schools by including children with disabilities and treating them equitably.

2) Schools are underfunded as it is, so the mandate may be stunted due to a lack of funds towards children with disabilities.

3) I definitely agree with the mandate. Students with disabilities deserve a good education just as much as an average child. This mandate ensures that that is possible.

4) I would change federal funding for the mandate. As the federal government does not give much funds to schools as it is, the mandate is underfunded and hard to implement.
