1.) It could be frightening or misleading to the client.
2.) Self-fulfilling prophesies - now the client will begin to behave as they were diagnosed. 
3.) May be a surprise to the client.
4.) Can be used as a negative against them in court hearings or legal disputes.
5.) Counselor could over or under diagnosis a condition.

Pros of Diagnosis:

1.) Helps to Guide, Lead, Direct and Fit  the counselor in formulating a consistent and continual type of treatment plan for helping the client that is within their scope of treatment.
2.) Insurance companies need one so they can pay the counselor/company that provided the counseling services.
3.) Can be used as a positive in some court hearings or legal disputes.
4.) Provide common language between counselor and client.
5.) For working with other professionals like psychiatrists, psychologist and some medical specialist, as well as managed care specialists and some governmental agencies, it gives the counselor the ability to speak about, understand, or report a clients diagnosis.
