In the city, an old building gets town down and makes the citizens sad, but a girl had an idea to transform the empty lot into a garden. This book won the Caldecott book award, so we know the illustrations are already excellent. This book can help teach the importance of presentation in writing because of how fun the book it. The words in this books do not looked perfect and typed, but they are readable, distanced properly, written left to right, and are in proper spots to read. I think that this book can be great for conventions because I'm sure lots of students could relate to the story, and because this book can be looked at for using proper sentence structure, grammar, spelling, etc. An example that could be used for analyzing proper conventions could be, "There were so many things we didn't know. Unable to understand and unable to speak, we made a lot of mistakes." The book uses a lot of describing words to describe the scenarios, the students feelings, the activities, etc. I think that the students can look at the words choices not only from the author telling this story, but the word choices that the characters choose to use and how hat affects the story and themselves.
