You can prove it because the pieces on the outside of the shape will fit into the pieces on the inside of the shape I'm going to try it now (my way).

On the second one on the top you can just fold the white bits in and it will make the shaded shape.

The four unshaded places on the second one, if you put all the corners together it will make the same shape but like a regular square. They are all halves

If the triangle that is circled moves into the triangle gap in the corner then it would make a half.
