         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>First, remake this timeline for your own use. </strong>As you read chapters 4 in <em>An Indigenous Peoples' History</em>, add textual evidence and information about the dates mentioned in the chapters. Don't worry about overly general dates-for example-"from the early 1600s to the late 1700s. . . "&nbsp; Include specific information about the event/people mentioned in the date and include the impact the event/person had on Indigenous peoples. Be specific with nation names when possible.<br><strong>See my example for 1620. </strong>You may also leave personal thoughts, wonderings, or questions with your entries.&nbsp; Also feel free to include pictures or original drawings (if you're so inspired) to enhance the visual component of the timeline. <strong><br></strong><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>“The sight where the British chose to build Jamestown in 1607 was located on Powhatan territory in what the British called the Colony of Virginia” pg. 69<br><br>In 1607 Jamestown was built on Powhatan land. &nbsp;This caused a tense relationship between the two groups. &nbsp;Negotiations between the Powhatan leader Wahunsonacock and John Smith the leader of Jamestown kept the peace until the harvest was poor and John Smith threatened the Powhatans.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Pequot War 1636-1638</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;“During the Pequot War (1636-1638), Connecticut and Massachusetts colonial officials began offering bounties for the heads of murdered indigenous people.” pg. 66-67<br><br>During the Pequot War government officials created rewards for proof that on had killed an indigenous person, such as their head or scalp.&nbsp; This aided the colonizers efforts to eradicate indigenous peoples.&nbsp; The Pequot War started after The Pequot Nation was thought to have killed an Englishman.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Tidewater War 1644-1646</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>“This series of raids against Indigenous fields and villages is sometimes called the Tidewater War (1644-1646), although it was not really a war but a series of attacks with the goal of starving the people out of the area.” pg. 71<br><br>During the Tidewater War the British raided and attacked Powhatan fields.&nbsp; The objective of these raids were to starve the Powhatans and to force them out of their land. &nbsp;These raids started after British attempts to eradicate indigenous peoples with warfare failed.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>“In the French and Indian War (1754-1763), the British found that the Cherokee Nation was an extremely powerful ally to the French.” pg. 75<br><br>During the French and Indian War the British saw the Cherokee Ntion as &nbsp;a threat because they were allied with the French. &nbsp;Because of this, the British created a plan to conquer the Cherokee in battle. &nbsp;This plan included use of all the force available in the Carolinas and Virginia.</div>]]></description>
