Writing Journals: This assignment involves students writing in a journal every day about topics of their choosing or that are suggested. This can include personal thoughts, descriptions of events, or responses to articles or videos. Consistent writing practice allows students to develop fluency and confidence in their writing skills. The teacher can also offer constructive feedback, encouraging improvements in the clarity and style of the message.

Collaborative Writing: In this assignment, students collaborate in pairs or small groups to create a text, such as a story, article, or letter. Each student contributes ideas and collaborates in writing and editing the text, which encourages creativity and facilitates mutual support. Co-writing also teaches revision and evaluation of various styles, encouraging peer feedback and optimization in grammar and structure.

Writing Summarizers: Asking students to express an article, video, or book chapter in their own words helps them improve their skills in summarizing and organizing concepts. This assignment not only enhances their reading comprehension, but also teaches them how to express ideas clearly, an essential aspect of academic and professional writing

How can you provide constructive feedback on students' writing?

To offer constructive criticism on students' writing, it's essential to use strategies that encourage progress without discouraging. Beginning by highlighting positive aspects of their work helps build confidence, while providing concrete, direct feedback prevents misunderstandings and allows students to focus on areas of improvement, such as grammar or coherence. By focusing on one aspect at a time, the teacher prevents students from feeling overwhelmed and can direct progress in stages. Using optimistic, solution-focused language, such as "Could you clarify this idea?" instead of pointing out flaws, fosters a productive environment. At the same time, offering examples and recommendations helps students imagine ways to improve, and asking thoughtful questions, such as "How could you reorganize this part for clarity?" encourages students to cultivate self-criticism and become more autonomous in their writing process.

What are the stages of the writing process that should be taught?

The process of learning to write in English should include several phases that assist students in organizing and honing their skills effectively, from the creation of ideas to the final presentation. Prewriting allows for researching and structuring ideas using resources such as brainstorming and diagrams, while the drafting stage allows for initial expression without fear of mistakes, fostering fluency and creative freedom. Then, in revision, students modify the coherence and cohesion of their thoughts, improving the message, and in editing they focus on grammatical and spelling accuracy, reinforcing the technical clarity of the writing. Finally, the publishing phase offers the opportunity to show the completed work, which increases students' confidence in their ability to write and communicate effectively. Instruction in these phases not only enhances linguistic skills, but also promotes critical thinking and an organized approach to writing, which is essential in academic and professional settings.
