In the beginning of the book, the author shows Wahoo's mom going to China to make more money for her family. This shows that her mom cares about his family and she is sacrificing her time at home to make money so that her family doesn't starve and die. Another thing the author includes is that when Wahoo's dad Mickey is ill because of the dead iguana that fell on top of his dad, Wahoo took care of his dad by giving him medicine and making him rest. He also assured his dad that he can handle the business by himself, so that he didn't have to worry. Lastly, when Tuna ran away from her abusive dad, she felt bad for her dad. These are the three main evidence that shows the author's intentions. First of all, when Noah is risking his life to prove that his dad is innocent. He sneaked into the boat in the middle of the night and collected evidence. Another thing is that when Noah's dad was in jail, his mom was considering to get a divorce because of his troublesome husband. But, Noah's mom decided to give his dad a chance because she trusted his dad. Lastly, when grandpa Bobby is introduced, he is introduced as the person who saved Abbey (Noah's sister)and Noah when they were stranded in the boat. If grandpa Bobby wasn't there to help them out, they would have died because of starvation.
