<title>It&#39;s interesting to note that iPads are more for consumption than production. It&#39;s not surprising they are described as toys or for playing games. </title>

<title>I loved the comments from the 2 teachers in the chapter. One teacher said, as she and students switched technology and had to problem solve, &quot;the beauty of the whole experience was that I was not the one facilitating the learning; students took ownership.&quot; And the other teacher&#39;s comment, that she didn&#39;t feel the need to be involved in every new piece of technology, she was discriminating and &quot;needed to keep my classroom and myself in mind: just because you can, doesn&#39;t mean you should.&quot; </title>

<title>We&#39;ve been conditioned to believe that the cool new stuff is the best; the book&#39;s author notes that &quot;it&#39;s easy to get caught up in a cool new tool and forget that technology tools should not drive instruction but rather be a vehicle for demonstrating or reinforcing new learning.&quot; So true! </title>

<title>B. Hamilton, the book&#39;s author, studied students&#39; tech use outside of school. Very interesting to note the differences in students&#39; home use of technology (and if they even have any technology at home). I was shocked that half of 4th-6th graders hadn&#39;t used a device before starting elem school, and that about the same number didn&#39;t have internet access at home. </title>

<title>Hamilton also points out, in her conclusion, that students need &quot;multiple opportunities with just one or two tools to build their technical repertoires.&quot; That might be very reassuring to a teacher, that he/she doesn&#39;t need to use every single new tech thing in existence, in their classroom. Students can hone their skills (and the teacher as well) on just a few tools. That&#39;s less intimidating, at least for a not-so-techie person like me. </title>
