         <description><![CDATA[<div>Q) Explain why Fraser forgot Elliot's mobile number.<br><br>A) Fraser had forgotten Elliot's number because he hadn't put enough attention to his phone number before his encounter with a teacher. This can bee seen in the Peterson &amp; Peterson study where they wanted to investigate the duration of short-term memory. They found out that when asked to recall a set of numbers after 3 seconds, they were able to recall over 80% of them, but after 18 seconds they recalled less than 10% of it. By applying the study to this scenario, Fraser had forgotten the phone number because there was a gap in time from when he first memorized it and up to his confrontation with a teacher. Another reason is that due to an interruption with the rehearsal process, Fraser was unable to fully memorize the phone number as not enough time was given for it to be fully processed and committed into the long term memory.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Q) Using your knowledge of the Peterson and Peterson study, explain why Fraser forgot Elliot's mobile number.<br><br>Ans) According to the Peterson and Peterson theory, a person can only hold a certain amount of information in our short term memory for 18 seconds before it is forgotten. When Fraser first got Elliot's new number, it would have been stored in his short term memory, and when disrupted by his teacher, he lost track of the number, and was unable to transfer the phone number from his short term memory to his long term memory, resulting in Fraser forgetting Elliot's number. In the Peterson and Peterson theory, when the participants had to rehearse the trigram given to them after counting backwards, they were unable to recall the trigram the further they went counting. The counting acted as a distraction, which can be applied as the teacher in Fraser's situation, thus making him forget the number.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Although the number has been repeated over and over it helps to maintain it it short term memory, repeating things out loud helps to remember it.  But once Frazer was interrupted his memory got diverted and hence he was unable to remember. As per p and p theory a person tries to memarize words or numbers by rehearsing the numbers, in the experiment the rehearsal was prevented by the teacher. Thereby, diminishing phrases memory.<br> </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Being able to remember a long set of numbers is quite difficult to remember unless rehearsed multiple times, referring to the Peterson and Peterson’s study, Elliot’s number first entered into Fraser’s brain as short-term memory. The average duration short-term memory lasts is about 18 seconds, and even  if he was able to reach his phone in those 18 seconds, his teacher confronting him interrupted his memory, causing him to completely forget what Elliot’s number was. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Using your knowledge of the Peterson &amp; Peterson study, explain why Fraser forgot Elliot's mobile number. <br><br>- As observed by Peterson and Peterson, in their experiment where they studied short term memory through recalling trigrams. Here they find out that the longer the interval delay the less trigrams were recalled. Participants were able to recall 80% of trigrams after a 3 seconds delay. However, after 18 seconds less than 10% of trigrams were recalled correctly. Therefore, we come to the conclusion that the more time that passes by, the less information participants are able to recall. This is because briefly conveyed information, like the digits of Elliot's mobile number can be stored as short term memory,  which has a limited duration when rehearsal is prevented. Here rehearsal is prevented due to an interruption from a teacher which means the data regarding Elliot's number is lost from Fraser's short term memory from trace-decay. </div>]]></description>
