I graduated from Loyola Marymount with my Bachelor's degree in English in 2014. I'm a huge fan of cats, music, and the horror genre in literature and movies. I think I was always drawn to English in school because not only did it come easy to me, but it was the subject that enticed and sparked my interest in all things relating to the supernatural and of the imagination. HP Lovecraft is among my favorite authors, and I closely relate to him in many ways. In "Supernatural Horror in Literature," an essay by H. P. Lovecraft, he describes why certain people are fascinated with and relate to the genre, while others find no interest in it: "The appeal of the spectrally macabre is generally narrow because it demands from the reader a certain degree of imagination and a capacity for detachment from every-day life. Relatively few are free enough from the spell of the daily routine to respond to rappings from outside, and tales of ordinary feelings and events, or of common sentimental distortions of such feelings and events, will always take first place in the taste of the majority; rightly, perhaps, since of course these ordinary matters make up the greater part of human experience. But the sensitive are always with us, and sometimes a curious streak of fancy invades an obscure corner of the very hardest head; so that no amount of rationalisation, reform, or Freudian analysis can quite annul the thrill of the chimney-corner whisper or the lonely wood." I appreciate the way Lovecraft finds a way to make the fans of "dark" or "scary" literature feel like a part of a welcoming group, even if they are outsiders which can often be looked down upon. When I'm not working long hours at Disneyland, or doing school stuff, I enjoy spending my time reading and watching horror/supernatural movies and shows. My all time favorite movie is the 1978 Halloween, and some of my favorite shows are The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, Scream Queens and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
