Question 2: I think that the kids don’t actually understand the gravity of the situation. I think they just see throwing the rocks at someone as something fun. I don’t think their parents actually explained what is actually going on and never told them that their contributing to someone’s death. They might not even understand the concept of death because the village is so small and remote that you don’t know what might seem like common knowledge to others. I think there’s a high possibility that the rest of the village knows and also chose not to tell the children. Why? Maybe they feared that the children would stop contributing or attending the lottery. Or maybe they thought the kids would try to report the situation to someone of authority (police e.t.c) or someone who has access to someone of authority. Or maybe they simply thought their kids would despise what they’re doing and display hatred towards them.
