Who thinks we should keep the name 1/1?

As im trying to brainstorm ideas, I still have that feeling that keeping a consistent name year by year would be effective, creating both a unified image for the university as well as the annual second year show. I think the name 1/1 and context behind it made by the previous year works extremely well as we all worked to different themes and explored extremely varied mediums and topics, the unified by these being our original one of a kind pieces of art!

Me Louise and Holly briefly discussed this when in person, the posters either entire design or just the exhibitions logo, could involve a portrait taken of all of our faces in slices merged together to show the blending and collaboration between us but also how it isnt just one persons work. On top of that we discussed how for posters keeping one singular design would most likely work better, or if its multiple, keeping the designs relatively similar and as accessible as possible (legible fonts and colours!!)

We after having some initial discussions went down to the space and discussed where outlets, doors and fire exits were located and mapped then with the small key very roughly. We discussed IF we have access to the area under the stairs, maybe it would work effectively for some of the videos to be played on a screen, with some seats and headphones (wires taped down and headphones on seats). this simply depends on whether we can access this space and how many people have done video / how they want it presented. it also means the video section has its own separate more intimate bit of the exhibit.

Furthermore, we discussed the possibility of with the little label that tells people who made the work, to also have a photo and artist statement / info, a short paragraph in third person describing their artistic vision and detailing the work itself. Another thing mentioned was the possibility of maybe putting a photo of the photographer by their name and work, in order for viewers to be able to put a face to the work!

We discussed yesterday the idea of roughly grouping people's work based on themes, for example portraits/identity themes being exhibited next to each other, landscapes/environments on the same section of wall, to create a cohesive exhibition

Create a business card / stickers for the general exhibition - hand them out with parcels at the Code Student Accommodation and leave some at the desk - primarily dance students which will get more reach from different audiences

Made of Many Minds

5^th June – Private Viewing, 6^th June – 15^th June Public viewing

Leicester Gallery Atrium space.

This brand-new exhibition produced by the second year Photography and Video students displays their personal exploration within their creative practice. These emerging artists, who have used both moving and still image to express themes spanning far beyond just fashion, identity and culture. Through this, the exhibition aims to celebrate their achievements and development alongside inspiring others to create.

This exhibition utilises both still and video work to provide an audience with a greatly varied and immersive experience. From classical modern cube style hangs to projected video work and analogue techniques blended with contemporary practice, a viewer is immersed into the differing worlds of each of these creative minds at work.

The exhibition will be open to the public from the 6^th of June to the 15^th within Leicester Galleries Atrium space in the design wing of De Montfort’s Vijay Patel building and free admission for all members of the public. The private viewing will be held the day prior on the 5^th of June at (?).

Lighting the Exhibition

We need to brainstorm some ways we'd like to light the show. Personally I think it would look effective if we had darker walls - e.g. a darkish grey - and have lights brightening up the work. creating more of an atmosphere than a standard white bright space?

The colours are not final neither is font. We have created a variety of designs for the name. The blank squares will be replaced with photos and due to the vast majority being portrait there is more focus on portrait. More focus on simple to read and the need to know info as there will be more online?

From looking on the dmu_fineart page, the second years who are also exhibiting (Sonder) have created a poster for their appearances on the radio show, which could help further push viewership for both the radio show and the exhibiton. It would need of course both our info and logo as well as demon FMs.

Behind the Series

These portraits were made with controlled studio lighting and coloured gels. Different colours were tested to see how they changed the mood of the same model.

The final six images were chosen because they work together as one emotional series. The dark background keeps attention on the face, hands, colour and expression.
