Trust vs. Mistrust is a stage of Psychosocial development in which infants are learning to trust that their caregivers give them the basics that they need. If their needs are not met then the child will develop mistrust or anxiety. This can be developed from birth to one year of age. When my cousin was younger and she wanted something, my aunt, her mother, would get up and get it for her and if she needed comforted or calmed down, she went to her mother for comfort. Since her mother gave her the things she needed when she was an infant to the time she was one year old, and carried on later into life, she knew that she could trust her and go to her for her safe place and needs.

This stage of development is important to a child's confidence and self-esteem because it is based upon how much the parent does for the child. My cousin is a very independent person. When she was younger, her mom did a lot for her, but she still knew when and how to do things on her own because her mother taught her along the way and showed her the things she was doing for her.

This stage is where children are starting to learn what they are and are not comfortable doing in the social aspect of things. My cousin is very outgoing and takes it upon herself to talk to people or approach them when she has a question and she has always done this, even when we were younger and met kids on the playground at the park.

In this stage, children develop the skills to perform tasks that are more difficult than what they are used to and may be out of their reach. Each time they are successful in this, it encourages them to want to do more challenging tasks. My cousin is a very good student and loves the challenge of a test or assignment and doing well on it makes her want to do more challenging things to prove that she can do it and succeed in it.

In this stage, one may be struggling to figure out who they really are or what they want to be, or they could be on the other side of things and know exactly who they are and what they want to be. This stage is difficult for all ages because there are many bi decisions involved in this time period. My cousin has always been very confident with who she is and has not changed herself to be someone else or something that she knows will not please her and make her happy. She always is the same all around in her personality and how she treats people and you get the real her every time you interact with her.

When in this stage, it is tough because each individual is either all for love and wanting to be in relationships, or not wanting to be in one and having a fear of committing to someone. In this stage my cousin is very much on the intimacy side because she has always been a very loving person to anyone she has ever met and not only has she been in a relationship for 6 years, but she also has been committed to being a good, genuine friend to all of her friends and family.

This stage is important because you want to know if you made an impact and left your wisdom and knowledge as known as you could, or if you were just quiet about it and kept out of things. This comes for most people in their later age in life and they either spread the knowledge they have learned over the years and made sure that they have an impact on people's lives, or they stay back and don't get involved with others. My cousin has known that she wants to be a nurse and she wants to have a positive impact and help improve someone's life and she is committed to that dream and making that dream become her reality.

This stage is asking the person what impact they had on this world. Did they have a big impact or did they not get out and do anything to leave an impact. My cousin is very caring and wants nothing more than to be able to help people. Being a nurse and caring for her patients is what she wants to do and what she wants people to know is her passion and always has been.
