The catalyst for my current obsession with browsing my Discover Weekly or searching my Daily Mixes for gems stems from fourth grade. My whole grade gathered in the auditorium for an exhibition of Middle School activities that we could opt into for the coming year. When I saw the Middle School band with their shiny, albeit confusing instruments I knew that I would have to join. I went home later that day and begged my parents to sign me up, and they were happy to, as long as I was getting involved. I later steered away from the concert band but I held the lessons I learned about professional music, and continued to indulge my own interests through practicing instruments on my own time, playing pick up sessions with my friends, or just scrolling through Spotify.

My developing brain couldn't comprehend why my grandparents would dedicate an entire Saturday to quietly staring at pictures hung on the wall. The appreciation of art is a more recent development for me, but I aim to progress my interests and hopefully further my understanding of the arts. The works of modern artists, such as Banksy, assisted in the development of my appreciation for historic artists, such as Salvadore Dalí. My interest in art is a developing hobby, and I hope to broaden my horizons throughout my time at Wentworth.

I could spend hours reading articles and reviews of a car that I will most likely never be able to buy. I love browsing stat sheets for the new corvette, or the old corvette, or even the new civic, or the old civic. It all interests me, and I eat it up just as the cliché expects me to. I think it ties back to my most basic function, which is that if I'm going to do something, I want to make it mine. If I'm shopping for a backpack, I won't buy a backpack, I'll browse for ages, hunting for the backpack, with every feature, every styling that matches my wants and needs. As I write this, I'm drinking water out of a cup that I spent upwards of thirty minutes searching for. It's the Porsche of cups.

Although it started as an easy 5 arts credits, by the end of the term I was watching an industry classic on nearly a daily basis, then presenting my interpretation the next day in class. Now, I'll watch almost any movie for almost any reason. I'll watch a terrible movie with my friends to laugh about it, I'll watch a great movie by myself to appreciate it, I'll watch new, old and anything in between. Movies also allowed me to connect with some of my best friends, and going to see movies in theaters became a regular Friday night activity for us. It's a form of art like no other, and one that can connect people in significant, emotional ways.
