"Challenging all school staff to change the way in which they have traditionally worked across all school settings."

I found this sentence from the CDE's MTSS Definition page to be particularly meaningful because it emphasizes the need for the entire school community understand that the MTSS embraces all facets of any student's school experience. Challenging all school staff and setting higher expectations for all students is at the core of the MTSS -- All are included, affected and responsible for ALL.
All means ALL.

“Enabling a paradigm shift for providing support and setting higher expectations for all students through intentional design and redesign of integrated services and supports, rather then selection of a few components of RTI and intensive interventions.”
I selected this quote because of the way it explains how a paradigm shift is involved in Multi-tiered Systems of Supports. As teachers it crucial that we adopt a mindset that views intentional designed services and supports as required in order to support all students.

“Systematically providing support for all students, including the gifted and high-achievers.”

I chose this quote because all too often, those students with a GATE designation are either left to fend for themselves or given more work to do. More often than not, students who have this designation are Twice-Exceptional. Their “gifted-ness” is accompanied by other factors such as anxiety or even an autism spectrum disorder. The more we learn about the whole person, the more we can help them grow. We can develop programs that challenge our gifted students as well as our low-achieving students.

Our quotes each point to the idea in the MTSS that all means all, intentional design must reach all students, and learning all about the entire student to reach both high and low students with the same commitment of including them all. Our mindset has to be fully open and inclusive on every level so that we don't leave any student behind.
