to support child with ADHD a practioner will sit by the child and support them during their writing by redirecting their attention back to work when distracted, taking them to a quiet corner where child can concentrate.

This activity not only supports literacy, but will support childrens fine motor skills. This is because the children will be learning to grasp a pencil correctly and using their hand eye co-ordination to write letters out.

It also supports their phonics skills as throughout the activity, the children will be pronouncing the sounds of the phonemes before writing them down, to gain a deeper understanding.

This activity can link to the ZPD theory. ZPD is the difference between what a learner can do without help and what they can do with help. During the activity the children will have the chance to use their previous knowledge when writing the letters out. However the practioners role is to scaffold their knowledge and support them further with writing 'Happy Chinese new year'. This can be done by teaching them new phonemes and helping them write the letters down, by showing the children examples

Make it clear to the child over the day, that we will be completing an activity later on, so that the child is aware. Children with autism can struggle with a change of routine or introducing them to something new. Dont put pressure on the child to complete the activity as they may feel overwhelmed and become agitated or upset. Involve the settings SENDCO to support the child, as they may be familiar with the member of staff and they may feel more comfortable to complete the activity with their support.
