My name is Lythe Marvin L. Lacre. I'm interested in OPM punk bands such as December Avenue, cheesy Filipino movies that revolve around romance, vibrant music festivals, Flip Top, and talent shows such as It's Showtime. I describe myself as a meek person, preferring time with myself than with other people. However it does not stop me from enjoying Philippine Pop Culture, as there are various trends that can make do with just one person enjoying them with the rise of the internet.

I would like to feature the rich culture that is Philippine music. We as a country have used music for ages to convey messages. Music is one thing that will never leave us. With new artists and groups such as BINI, Maki, Cup of Joe, etc., the presence of OPM has never been any more impactful and relevant. Even making international headlines, our music shapes not only us Filipinos but everyone else abroad.

OPM and the Uses and Gratifications Theory

How does OPM make headlines and waves throughout? It is because people like it! To be more specific, it is an avenue where people can satisfy themselves. And it helps that there are many genres and forms of music. All of this is explained by the Uses and Gratifications Theory.

to recap...

the Uses and Gratifications Theory revolves around the fact that people actively seek what satisfies them. People are proactive in seeking things that is enjoyable and relatable to them. Now in the case of OPM, this may be because it helps maintain our cultural identity as Filipinos, but for many I think this is not the case. I listen to December Avenue because the message they convey relates to me. I actively seek bands similar to them. And other people are similar too, people enjoy BINI because its a pop girl group. As to how OPM creates change, it is because music is an art form full of energy and emotion. It is that energy and emotion that satisfies people and motivates them. It pushes and inspires people. Music can change peoples moods, energize people, or even make people cry. It is that power, and especially emotion as Filipinos prioritize emotions, as seen in other popular pop culture. Humans have needs that need fulfilling so that they may go on and do something.
