As a young learner science always excited me. We were always doing experiments and collecting data. It was fun to do hands on learning. My favorite thing we did was we had classroom caterpillars and we watched them turn into butterflies it was so exciting to the whole class to observe this process. My teachers creating these hands on lessons is the reason I am the learner I am today.

Going into middle school science changed a lot for me. It was a lot more math based as well as creating things instead of observing the world around us. I think my attitude changed as I continued to high school just because I was not very good at math and the science I was learning consisted of that. I still enjoyed it but more so when we did hands on activities.

Coming into this course I expect to develop my teaching style. We always talk about different teaching styles but I haven't been able to really try out different ones. I am excited that we will be exploring how students learn and the importance of understanding that as an educator. Being in a classroom for the first time will allow me to apply things I learn through this course.

In TCH 247 I learned a lot about scientific inquiry. We learned about discovery and how it is super important in science. Creating that mindset of being curious and exploring for our students is important. Without curiosity we would not have answers to what goes on in the world around us. Everyday in the science world answers are being discovered about the "unknown". We explored different scientists as well as conducted many different experiments this is a way we dug into the diverse ways in which scientists study the natural world.

My past experiences as a science learner as made me excited to teach science to my own students. Science class was such a great memory for me as an elementary student. I absolutely loved doing experiments and exploring the world around me. Going into a classroom having learned so much about different styles of teaching and getting to know your students has set me up for getting excited about science again. I want to be an educator who is excited to not only teach but learn from my own classes.

what have you learned about science teaching and learning throughout the semester?

Throughout this semester I have really gained the understanding for the importance of teaching and learning science. Allowing students to be curious and explore will help them in the long run. I think that by giving students the chance to explore they will create an understanding of the world around them and how it works. Students will be able to pursue new interests, make informed decisions, and create an understanding of new concepts. I also believe by learning about the 5E's lesson plan style, it will give students a more beneficial lesson. Being able to try this out in a actual elementary classroom gave me the understanding of how effective this lesson plan style is when it comes to implementing science.
