Cyrus was the founder of the Persian Empire. Cyrus was a very tolerant ruler; he let the people he conquered keep their religion and live their lives the same way. When his son, Cambyses, took over after his death, the empire was no longer tolerant. Cambyses did not follow his fathers lead, ruling ruthlessly. He died only eight years after his rule began. Then Darius took over.
