Abigail has some serious psychological problems that could possibly stem from the fact that she is an orphan. Because she grew up without parents, she really did not learn about the family unit as she should have, so she is reckless and cavalier with her pursuits of John Proctor. It might be slightly unrealistic that a seventeen-year-old girl from this era would be as bold as Abigail was. Considering the morality of the society in which she lived, she would have to be a little touched in the head to pursue Proctor so brazenly.
